Its funny that that this movie is what got me into anime as well, you must be at least 28 years old, or older. I think I was 8 when I first saw a glimpse of this movie. Awesome.
to those young anime fans...this movie came out back in 1983..this type of animation was never seen before this movie.in other words, this is the first of its kind, and the godfather of ALL anime movies..,everything else after this is just an attempt to duplicate this GENIOUS movie..if you look at anime after this...they all copy from this one..the benchmark of anime..FIST OF THE NORTHSTAR RULES!!!
@TheCrimsonification BTW, I don't speak or understand Japanese, but it's kind of funny, because I just got done giving a religitard a lesson in Japanese beliefs in the # 42 (Shi ni ) meaning To Death not 5 minutes ago. (Got that bit of info from 1978's series Space Pirate Captain Harlock who wore the # on all his incarnations outfits.)
English dub aint bad but they changed they're names for some reason Yuria-Julia,Uighur-Wiggle(LOL),Airi-Ailee...+Yurias voice is terrible in the dub,so i prefer the Japanese version, after all no one can replace Akira Kamiya, the one and only Kenshiro.
man. some of the scenes are provactive in my mind, tales of the past, present and future condensed into streaming images of all we will ever be capable of or have witnessed
@theicechinchilla In the TV series she committed suicide because she didn't love Shin but was saved by the Nanto Guardians. Shes a descendent of the Nanto bloodline and the last Nanto General. The movie is 89% correct.
@theicechinchilla The series resolves differently and most of the charcters are met in different circumstances. Their is a dubbed version but IO heard its incomplete plus it doesnt feature the epic theme song.
God the ending was... just wow. Wow oh wow oh wow. Anyone who is just beginning to watch this please give it a chance. It's a bit silly in parts but much of it is very meaningful. It's like Nausicaa meets Dragonball Z.
One of my favorite things to do in college and early like was to watch a anime with someone who was never exposed to them. One i had watched before and then sit and watch them go thru all the emotions and reactions. Almost no hollywood movie can match these for story telling and impact.
@buttondiet well if you call this dubbing one of the best I can only imagine the awfulness of other manga's dub work.....glad I'm not an american though it's helpful when one wants to learn english :)
The movie was alright, could of been Better. ~ Alot of fill in the blank, on the story. A little bad sence action, during Fights, & Hardly No background story on other characters. And Ken... well... I like him, (Disappearsalot) but he fit his part well. For this movie from a count, from 1-10: I give it "4" Just cause it was hard to follow some parts.
I wouldn't say a "Hardcore fan" really... I just like to know the reason why the characters do what they do. And if ya want to know there Stories as well... you can read the manga:
37:28 I love this part!!!! HEY......these belong to you....OUUUUHHH NOOOOUUUHHHH AAAAAAHHHH!!!! lol the bad guy's voice acting is epic lol. I have this masterpiece on dvd LOVE IT!!!!
Wow, I was so thinking about great anime, and here it is. I can't believe you were able to post the movie in its entirety. I thought the cut off for you tube was 15min or something? Anyways hope it doesn't get yanked, good on ya for sharing a classic.
Awesome, one of my favorites. Anyone who enjoys this should watch the original series, now on DVD. It's more fleshed-out, and I think, more satisfying.
This one deep work. I appreciate anything that got moral and ethical message, and this one got it. It is simple things that the author is trying to tell us, which is mostly in the reach of our hands, but we don't pay attention to them until we notice their disappearance. It is also almost as if it were the narration of the second coming of Christ, and I mean that as a compliment, the symbolism is obvious.
I would often buy a copy or two and give one to a friend when I wished to turn them on to Anime[of the kind i luv] that was back in the early nineties STILL good and epic even in this condensed form ... seek out the "fist" and lookout for the fist's bad-ass bra' as many a ballstreet wanker reminds me of him...Ya? whatever, my congrats to uploader !
@spookdog187 Damn right... MY first official anime viewing OAV experience, for sure... freshman year of college Fall '93, my boy from Willingboro, NJ put me on to this, Golgo 13, and Ninja Scroll. After that... I was hooked. No bullshit, I almost never watched a movie while I was in college. To me, anime stories were darker, richer, more creative, and just better; not to mention the artwork which, unlike these oversaturated bright productions now, was amazingly gorgeous.
This is awesome. Glad i finally got round to watchin this. Great animation and some really badass moments. The ending was pretty good too. Although Julia's random disappearance is just unnecessary.
this was my first anime movie i saw at 14 im 30 now and its still dope as fuck when he does the fat man in thats my favorite part this takes me back. I still enjoy some classic and when i say classic this is classic anime thanks bro.
It too started my love of anime, followed closely by Akira and I never looked back.

@MichaelPhoenixUK OTT dramatic fits PERFECTLY with the tone of Fist of the North Star. Thank you for inadvertently backing up the fact that the original voice acting is VASTLY superior. You haven't seen Fist of the North Star if you've only seen it dubbed. The japanese voice acting is that tremendous.
@DingusStudley I've backed up nothing you've ever said I'm sure. I've taken the same premise component and drawn a different conclusion. I feel the english dub lends a sense of reality and grounding to the film which with a typical japanese soundtrack would take the film back over into the realms of ridiculousness like in the vein of Violence jack.
@MichaelPhoenixUK Have you even seen the film with the original and superior voice acting? It fits PERFECTLY with the tone of the movie. You have people literally exploding from kung fu, you have giants 30 stories tall slaughtering villagers. Some more powerful, enthusiastic, inspired voice acting isn't going to render the movie unbearably over the top, not given how ott it already is. The original va IS far more inspired and has far more emotion.
@DingusStudley Ken's no badass, that's the point of his character, a destined warrior touched forever by sadness and cursed to know no happiness, hence his discovery of Musou Tenshin in the Anime series. Many people believe the original japanese is scared for anime, personally i find reading subs detracts from the film, maybe if I knew japanese itd be different...
@MichaelPhoenixUK No badass? He can make peoples heads explode by merely poking them with his index finger. Badass and full of sorrow are not mutually exclusive. A character can be a badass and still have depth. And I sincerely hope your views on subs only applies to anime.
@DingusStudley : He never really seemed like he wanted or tried to be one, and to me personally he's more "fallen hero" then "blessed badass". Yes, he did do a LOT of badass things, but that's not what I see what I see of him as a whole.
I also have to agree with Michael on the sub thing, although I didn't like the English dub in this movie at all! Reading the subtitles takes away from watching all the scenery animators and designers worked so hard on. Good English dub > subtitles > bad dub
@luigifan73 You know you can look at both what's going on in a movie AND the words all at the same time right? Well, at least most people can. It shouldn't detract at all from anything.
@MichaelPhoenixUK It would be beyond tragic if you also found them to detract from live action films. Dubbing live actors is FARRR worse and completely tarnishes an actors performance. SOOOOO many incredible performances are lost on people who for some bizarre reason can't or won't do subs.

I loved this movie since i was 14 and has been one of my faves, glad to see the subtitled edition on DVD now in it's special edition. This movie is one of the inspirations to Riki-Oh to The Matrix, it's like the anime version of 300

This brings back college dorm memories from '95. You are the SHIT! I had it on VHS and my tape broke about 4 years ago. Thanks a million!

This is a confusing confusing movie. And lots of gore too.

@rang3r34
I loved this movie since i was 14 and has been one of my faves, glad to see the subtitled edition on DVD now in it's special edition. This movie is one of the inspirations to Riki-Oh to The Matrix, it's like the anime version of 300
