This on record, is one of the best closers of all time, a song of redemption, and a truly beautiful love song. unlike the bands channeling the post punk sound around in the last five years who have not moved things on, this band was unique and sounded like no other, sounding like Yo la tengo, Prince and Talking heads with a sleazeball on vocals, but one that could write a song like this. Wonderful.

i'm excited to see some people respond to the afghan whigs. i always thought that this would be the one great band of the 90's that would mostly fade into obscurity, if only because to many dulli's voice could be regarded as...well, reckless or undiciplined; and because of such: bad. i lost a lot of cd's in a car fire a year ago and used youtube as a vessel to hear the songs i'd lost as a result and not a lot of people were singing the a.w.'s well-deserved praises. keep promoting good taste.

I always put on Gentleman after a break up.  I think their first 3 albums were the best. Up In It, Congregation and Gentleman. Those first tours were all great too. I remember seeing them right before Congregation came out at CBGS in NY. Amazing night. Dulli was very funny, picking fights with people in the audience who were getting pissed because he was talking too much between songs, singing random Pink Flloyd songs the band didn't even know.

some have said that dulli cant sing. he may not be the best out there but very few can sing it with as much emotion and conviction as he does. the whigs' best song by far.

Well said binaryfuneral. It took me forever to get into Dulli because I thought, "Eh that's not pleasant." I am a HUGE Mark Lanegan fan and since they are friends/collaborators, over the years its become clear I've missed out on some great art by ignoring Dulli alltogether. This might be a guess but intoxication or lack thereof might have SOMETHING to do with it because I have heard him sound pretty darn good lately. He has so much heart to share.

Long time fan who had the privelege to met them at a show in Cleveland back in 1995 and San Fran in 96. You age, have kids and have less time to listen to "your music". My heart skips a beat when reminded of the great times shared with old friends listening to the Whigs...

I saw the Whigs on their Black Love Tour at the House of Blues in New Orleans. Between the ages of 19 and 22, this was the most important band in the world to me. As fucked up as it may seem, Dulli was my hero. I would have given anything to live that life of being elegantly wasted and producing some of the most poignant songs of your generation. Thank you for reminding me just why all this seems completely acceptable after watching this post.
