  • WOW!

  • Genious.

  • @derekq72 all respect to the twilight singers but can i say reunion pleaseeeeeee!

  • Must have been Osterrock-Nacht back in 1996. I was only 16 years old, saw them, listened to them and was stunned, amazed. To see this 15 years later sends shivers down my spine. What a great band!

  • After a long time I hear this song and finally understand the lyrics, it hurts when you lose someone to infidelity.

  • What a great tune. Thumbs up

  • I believed in you. I will.

  • 2:41 definitely on drugs. Rockin' the hell out, tho'...

  • The transference from album to live is truly incredible. One of the best live bands over the last 25 years.

  • The tranference from album to live is truly incredible. One of the best live bands over the last 25 years.

  • the Whigs are THE band

  • @rostbif2 Cincinati rules

  • This on record, is one of the best closers of all time, a song of redemption, and a truly beautiful love song. unlike the bands channeling the post punk sound around in the last five years who have not moved things on, this band was unique and sounded like no other, sounding like Yo la tengo, Prince and Talking heads with a sleazeball on vocals, but one that could write a song like this. Wonderful.

Black love was the soundtrack to the greatest Tarantino movie never made.

  • @Hahnmaier I meant Talking heads, Prince and Yo la tengo mixed together.

  • Rick McCollum - underrated guitar player.

  • @TSing013 absolutely

  • Unappreciated greatness!!

  • @rgshock99 absolutely

  • @rgshock99 YEPPERS

  • I've found Black Love is about half perfection and half solid but lacking songs I skip to listen to the perfection part. This one? Perfection.

  • Rick McCullom is amazing on the other guitar :)

  • i'm excited to see some people respond to the afghan whigs. i always thought that this would be the one great band of the 90's that would mostly fade into obscurity, if only because to many dulli's voice could be regarded as...well, reckless or undiciplined; and because of such: bad. i lost a lot of cd's in a car fire a year ago and used youtube as a vessel to hear the songs i'd lost as a result and not a lot of people were singing the a.w.'s well-deserved praises. keep promoting good taste.

  • The gritty voice is what gets the message and feel of the song across so perfectly. Love almost everything Dulli does. Def soundtrack of my 20's and so far 30's.

  • despite there semi-obscurity, the whigs can be proud of their albums and their influence will only grow over time black love was a masterpiece

  • a lie... the truth... which one should i use? this song is just utter lyric and sonic perfection. seriously have no idea why they never quite broke through. they are amazing.

  • How do I change the username that appears every time I comment on youtube????????? I have been driving myself half crazy by searching endless account 'help' topics - useless. ????? Help?

  • this guy really doesnt know how to sing...but I love it!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Que inspiracao

    Que musica

    Que disco Black love

    VIVA !!!!! The Afghan Whigs

MUITA BALADA MUITA FESTA MUITA LOUCURA BOMS TEMPOS

  • Black Love is the best effin album!

  • I always put on Gentleman after a break up. I think their first 3 albums were the best. Up In It, Congregation and Gentleman. Those first tours were all great too. I remember seeing them right before Congregation came out at CBGS in NY. Amazing night. Dulli was very funny, picking fights with people in the audience who were getting pissed because he was talking too much between songs, singing random Pink Flloyd songs the band didn't even know.

  • Are you kidding? I couldn't listen to Gentlemen after that bitch crused my soul. Too much rememberance.

  • How a song about despair can be so beautiful. Unbelievable. The lyrics are just amazing. Thank you afghan whigs!

  • some have said that dulli cant sing. he may not be the best out there but very few can sing it with as much emotion and conviction as he does. the whigs' best song by far.

  • Well said binaryfuneral. It took me forever to get into Dulli because I thought, "Eh that's not pleasant." I am a HUGE Mark Lanegan fan and since they are friends/collaborators, over the years its become clear I've missed out on some great art by ignoring Dulli alltogether. This might be a guess but intoxication or lack thereof might have SOMETHING to do with it because I have heard him sound pretty darn good lately. He has so much heart to share.

  • beautiful

  • I probably have 700 cds and this is one of the best songs I ever heard.Got to find a good live bootleg of the Whigs, can't believe they never released an official live album.Any suggestions?

  • Im glad so many other people share the same sentiment about Afghan Whigs and Greg Dulli as I do. Probably the most influentialy time stamped artist of my life. Makes me want to drink whiskey, smoke reds, and relish in the fact that Im deperatley lonely and heartbroken because Greg DUlli makes that seem so glamorous.

  • why are you heartbroken?

  • I agree with you wholeheartedly. He does the same thing to me.

  • Long time fan who had the privelege to met them at a show in Cleveland back in 1995 and San Fran in 96. You age, have kids and have less time to listen to "your music". My heart skips a beat when reminded of the great times shared with old friends listening to the Whigs...

"Lord lift me out of the night...come on look down...and see the mess I'm in tonight"...

    Engrave it on my tombstown

  • Dulli is a musical genius and his work will never be forgotten.

  • i weap for the past.

  • I saw the Whigs on their Black Love Tour at the House of Blues in New Orleans. Between the ages of 19 and 22, this was the most important band in the world to me. As fucked up as it may seem, Dulli was my hero. I would have given anything to live that life of being elegantly wasted and producing some of the most poignant songs of your generation. Thank you for reminding me just why all this seems completely acceptable after watching this post.

  • Amazing! Dulli is simply brilliant! What a song!

  • I'd like to go back and live Dulli's life from about 90-98.

  • I was at that San Diego show and it was one of the greatest nights of my life. Dulli is freaking amazing. Thanks for posting!

  • one of my fave songs ever...greg dulli is the reason i kicked the drugs and picked up a guitar.......B

  • Wow! Seriously, I'm glad to read that!

  • One of the most underrated bands in America, along with Blind Melon. Soulful, and rich. Is it just me or they don't make music like this anymore?

  • I couldn't agree more, man. "Soup" and "Black Love" are two of my top 3 records ever. This live rendition is just beautiful. Thanks for posting!

  • hmm, look at Dulli's eyes ... concealed indeed.

  • What a way to close the show. Amazing song.

  • BEST BAND EVER !!!! EVER!

  • If Marvin had fronted a rock band this would be it. Dulli is a hero of mine, a truly soulful man and an absolute legend. Gentlemen and Black Love are rarely off my playlist of a week. Freakin' awesome upload mad props from a big Whigs fan in the UK!

  • brilliance...

  • Truly great!
