You should try reading the manga. The 1st (and to a much higher extent, the second) weren't really faithful to the original story at all.

The 2nd wasn't TRYING to be so it's forgivable. The first was limited in scope, due to only being able to be 26 episodes long. I like how they ended it. It's important to keep it in the context of being a different series though.

I didn't like the ending much to be honest. And I am aware that the 2nd anime series was intentionally meant to be a reboot, but it still felt like a lacking and unentertaining story on it's own (I only own the first 13 episodes, and don't intend to buy the last set, since I've heard fom many that it only gets worse). The first anime was 26 episodes, yes, but that's no excuse for the unnecessary story changes. I didn't like how the anime completely made things up, to be honest. =\

I mean, the second series flat-out couldn't exist without being completely different, and the first series would have basically had a totally arbitrary ending if they hadn't done any changes. Sure, I'm not sure why they decided that-except for the very end-only Asuna got to make a pactio with Negi, and it's sad that they removed Kotaro, but thinking only the manga is "pure" is a thinking that eliminates the possibility of the anime at all.

Ok, in all seriousness, I see your point, and while I do somewhat agree with it, I still believe that a proper adaptation of Negima is possible and can be done. The OADs proved it (they even gave us the actual character designs and had the characters act like their normal selves, unlike in Negima!? where Asuna for instance was just put into the role of the daffy idiot. I don't mind some changes...

i knida agree with what yall saying. the only reason i didnt like the first one was because the end was just stupid. at first they went along with the manga but when they threw that ending in, it was just retarded. I like negima!? because it was different and how they end it was good. oh it was also funny.

I disliked the first anime for more reasons than that, to be honest. The character designs looked ugly and unlike in the manga, and the way things occured in the anime were often very from the manga, even before they made those episodes with Asuna at the end. The color palatte also looked really weird to me. One thing I found sorta funny in a sad way was how the production comany (Xebec) tried so hard to avoid adapting the Mahora Festival that was going on in the manga during the anime's run.

Relating to the clawed picture: A blown up picture was released, and she's shown to be smiling rather creepily in the picture. Not to mention her eyes are red. (in any other colored manga picture, her eyes are yellow)

On the colors bit, that particular picture was Akamatsu's first picks for colors, and various changes have occured for quite a few since then.
