  • i have a dent on the side of my ipod

  • MY ipod says that it is an Iphone when i try to plug it into the computer and hook it up to itunes and it all started happening when i accidentaly jumped into the pool i put it in dry rice and let is sit their for 2 days and it will charge but i says i need to reset it then i try to reset it as an Iphone and it says that it failed

  • @LoganLovesShiori - You likely have damaged the logic board, and that component will likely need to be replaced.

  • My headphone dock is broken - the left side doesn't have any sound unless I force the wire into the jack in a certain angle - should I take everything apart like you did? Or is there a safer and shorter process to repair the sound dock?

  • @cloud9zilla - You likely need to replace the component. The repair is not very easy. I'd recommend giving us a call at 1-866-726-3342, option 2.

  • is this safe?

  • @hcheng777 - If you're careful. You do risk damaging the iPod whenever you open it up however.

  • my ipod went in the washer and wont turn on...but when i plug in the charger it says its charging it has that bolt symbol and the battery filler thing.......but it never charges.....any ideas?

  • @1996gavman - You likely have a defective logic board in the minimum.

  • @PowerbookMedic ok i got my ipod to charge but the touch pad doesnt work...any place where i can get a new touch pad or is my ipod just done for! or how do i fix it?

  • @1996gavman - You can buy them from our website or by calling us at 1-866-726-3342, option 1.

  • i took the digitizer off (it has a big crack in it) and the ipod doesn't function at all anymore. all the components look entact. any ideas?

  • @phavanas1 - If all the connections look right, you may have other issues such as the logic board.

  • Good video just about how much does it cost if I broke the digitizer cable?

  • @Bdiddy616 - You'll have to replace the whole digitizer. Give us a call at 1-866-726-3342 or visit us online.

  • Great video, I just used it to replace my

Battery which I thought was why my iPod would not turn on but it didn't work, when I plug it in to try and charge it the bottom left gets really hot like instantly (this happened before I replaced the battery and still is happening after I replaced it) so I have no clue what's wrong I wish it would have at

least just turned on I just need some info off it. When I looked online I could not find out what my problem may be a few other people described my s

  • Can take the components of a 3rd gen and put them into the case of a second gen?

  • im guessing to put this back together i have to play this video in reverse.? -.-

  • @lighthouse562 - You have to follow the steps in reverse, yes.

  • Comment removed

  • What does it take to replace the headphone jack? Do I have to solder?

  • @kchsy - You do have to solder the part. We can do the repair for you as well. You can give us a call at 1-866-726-3342, option 2.

  • My dad tried this...

HE BROKE MY IPOD. Great... thanks.. :/

  • aha it was successfull!!!! thank you for this great vid!! only one problem... there is a small strand on hair under the touchscreen now lol

  • i looked up this vid on my ipod because the headphones broke and now there is a piece stuck in the jack so i cant hear out of the external speakers...

  • will this work on an ipod touch 4th gen

  • @SharkVenom71 - While similar, there are differences between the 3rd and 4th gen touch. Check out our other videos for the 4th gen touch manual.

  • will this fix error 28 if i dry the inside out?

  • @dyla12116 - Unlikely.

  • Wherevis the flipping speaker?

  • I spilled water on my iPod like a year ago and when I plug in a headset I hear nothing I hear whatever I'm listening to at like half a decimal loud I don't kno if I should do this I'll probably fuck it up and I cant get it repaired because I'm already getting a new disk drive for my xbox

  • @TheEmoboy2020 - You may just need to replace your headphone jack. It will either be that or the logic board. Either way, a component will need to be replaced.

  • I dropped my iPod in the toilet :( but it worked mostly except for charging for the first couple weeks and now the backlight isn't working but everything else is fine. What should I do to fix the backlight? I heard that it could just be corroded but I have 0% experience taking apart iPods

  • @Chillidog57 - You're probably better off replacing the iPod. Most likely the logic board in a minimum is damaged and would need to be replaced. However, with liquid damage, any number of other components could also have been affected.

  • @codmodwod I had the exact same thing happen with my IPod. I had it in my jeans pocket and the wife did a load of laundry and didn't check my pockets. This was a couple of years ago and I just found it again in a drawer. This video was awesome and I am gonna take it apart anyway just to tinker with it. Why?.....cuz the damn thing is dead, what am I going to do kill it again.....LOL....sounds like fun to mess with innards.....who knows maybe I will try to get it to work again just for the ch

  • careful i cut the shit out of my finger!!!

  • This is VERY difficult to do. Do not understimate the difficulty level of taking the iPod apart as you -will- break it if you don't know what you're doing. Unless you don't mind having a brand-name paperweight around, do not experiment on an iPod that you still use.

And it's not the putting it back together that's difficult, it's controlling the amount of force you exert on the tiny parts and easy-to-tear ribbon-cables.

  • hey my ipod 3rd gen has been throught the washer and partway throught the dryer... i put it in rice 5mins after i found it and it has been about 24 hours and ive tried charging it and turning it on and it doesent work... is there somthing i can do? thanks

  • @codmodwod - At that point it is likely dead. You can try replacing the components, but with liquid damage you're likely better off replacing the iPod as a number of components inside the iPod could be faulty.

  • ok now im confused. i took it apart, put it back together, connected everything back correctly, and when i press the top button to turn it on the screen goes white and then off, thats it.

  • @bigsubs1 -You'll likely need to go back in and verify your cables are properly connected.

  • @PowerbookMedic- well i held down the home and sleep button for about 10 sec, it turned off and then the white apple came up and started right up so i guess thats what i had to do. sorry to say, but the tutoral didnt help me much, my ipod is not charging and thats what i was trying to fix...

  • so my sleep button and volume buttons are confused. All 3 put my ipod to sleep, and bring up the volume screen, but none of them actually change the volume. I heard its because of water thats acting as a conductor between the buttons. How apart will i have to take my Ipod to get the water out?

  • @MtbMoosey - You'll most likely have to replace the logic board in the iPod.

  • a wise man once said it is ten times easier to take something apart than it is to put it back together

  • And now to put it back together...

  • Plz tell me how to fix it

  • I dropped my ipod and the screen has went white but i can still here the typing noises and the locking

  • Can I order parts online to convert my 8GB iPod touch into a 64GB ?

  • @TheBoredPhantom - You can order the logic board from our website or by calling us at 866-726-3342. There is usually very limited availability on the 64GB board.

  • Best guide I have ever seen!!! Thank you!!!

  • does anyone know if my ipod touch will be okay? i drop it into the toilet on accident and it died. ):

  • @ChrisPintoBean well... its a fat chance that it would live.

my sister dropped her ipod in the toilet(minus the piss) but amazingly it stayed alive incredibly.

but most of the time, yours is likely ded, not big suprize

  • My girlfriends little brother dropped her iTouch in the toilet (it fell off the shelf above... just water in the toilet thank goodness). She then put it in a bowl of rice and all worked well. Now about a month later DEATH is starting to take its toll. The only think that is wrong is that half the time it doesn't recognize any kid of WiFi signal. (half the time meaning sometimes it does then it disconnects.) Is there a wifi replacement for a 3G? (same exact kind in this vid 32GB as well.)

  • The spot where the headphones go don't work can u help me?

  • @lilsaucey831 - You'll need to replace your headphone jack.

  • my ipod over heats every time i charge it nd then it turns right off

  • lol broke my screen, oh well.. the thing was already dead make sure not to put much pressure on the screen while lifting it up.. or youll hear a tiny little crack and your screen is done :D!!

  • My iPod 3rd Gen finally kicked the bucket last night, it fell onto a hard carpet floor, its gone through much more punishment however, with much worse cases such as many other (worse) droppings, filled with sand and falling under running water with only temproary problems which eventually sorted themselves out. However the final drop was no different and leads me to believe that it may have knocked something loose, I cannot turn it on even when using Power button + Home button combo. Any ideas?

  • @anonymouslyannoyed - You can always open it up to see if a cable popped loose. That is the first place to start.

  • Hi so the back of iPhone 3GS is I'm pretty sure broken can I use the led skreen of an iPod touch to replace it?

  • @theben8100 - No.

  • hi, the first part you took off, the touch thingy, yeah i broke mines, what do i search for and where can i get them?

  • @cgic666 - They're available from our website. You can also call us at 1-866-726-3342.

  • I have an A1288 model but I figured out the other steps and this worked for me.

  • My touch screen stopped working completely. I have no Idea why, but it was working fine earlier this morning. I see this process as a last resort, and you guys seem to know what your doing. Any suggestions? Im running IOS 4.2.1 and Win 7 on my PC. Ive heard that there are compatibility issues with those but Ill let you guys bee the judge. Any help is appreciated.

  • @Optix334 - If it stopped working, you'll likely have to replace either the touch panel or the logic board. If you're uncomfortable with the repair, give us a call and we can get it done for you. 1-866-726-3342, option 2.

  • @PowerbookMedic Yeah I figured it might be the digitizer, and I ordered another to replace it. I'm comfortable enough with replacing that, but if it comes down to the logic board...I'll just leave that to you guys. As long as your cheaper than Apple, I'll be happy.

  • im trying to remove the last of those seven screws but the last one absolutaly wont come out and im afraid im going to stripte metal. what should i do?

  • @bedroombandit1 - It's likely already stripped. You'll likely need a professional to remove it as it will likely need to be dremmeled out. We do perform that type of repair. You can call us at 1-866-726-3342, option 2.

  • @PowerbookMedic hello there i have a problem with my ipod i dont really know what it is, the screen flickers, sometimes, and when i press the home button there is a white screen and it fades and then the slide to unlock screen comes on do you have any clue of what it could be? i think its the lcd cable or something i dont really want to take it apart you think you could tell me what it could be??

  • Ok so my docking station fell of a unit with my iPod on it and now it won't charge or switch because the battery is completely drained. I think the docking port is damaged so what should i do? My warranty has expired and i have already spoke to apple tech support.

  • @LTDGaming - You probably need it professionally diagnosed at this point. We offer a free diagnosis. You can call us at 1-866-726-3342, option 2.

  • i took my screen off, and now it wont turn on, please help

  • @SiiKKiLLaZ - The first thing I'd try is to go back into the unit and verify all the connectors are properly connected.

  • Okay my iPod is funny and iht has to do somethinq with the earphone jack. Well iCant hear my music right. IHear iht from both sides but what happen is that iCan only hear the backqround noise. And the actual people and the beat iht sounds likee a scatchy noise

  • when I use headphones only 1 of them plays music, and its all messed up, but when its out loud it's fine. whats the problem?

  • @g0dblade - You need to replace the headphone board most likely.

  • Ok. I took it apart. Everything is sticky. Why? And the volume switch short circuits in and out with the power switch. Help?

  • @dieselisdebest - Something likely spilled in the unit if it is sticky. You'll likely need to replace those components.

  • hey i tried to open my screen and my screen turned white and wont go back to normal how do i fix this?

  • @allamericanrejects4 - That means the backlight is on back the image data isn't coming through. Check the cable again and if that doesn't work you may need to replace the LCD.

  • Hey! is there anyway to open the iPod up without scratching or breaking that black trim around the edge?

  • nice job!NOW PUT IT BACK TOGETHER!

  • Nice and useful video^^Hmm,,,when I charged my 3rd gen touch (I plug it into AC),and I could hear an obivous "pop" sound. And my ipod was totally dead,no matter i press and hold the power button or charge it dozen times.(it gives an electronic fizzy sound when supplying electricity[AC/USB]now, and still cannot turn on) I wonder if the "fuse" used in microchips(if there are any)(Sorry for my bad english, not a nativeT^T)has melted, and created a short cut. Do I have any chance to fix it ?Thanks;)

  • I just wanna know how to get the memory chip thingy out, cause mine has water damage, and it still works but only to a certain degree, so i was told to just go buy a new one and then put a chip into the new one cause it has all my stuff still on it, and i dont have all the music to resync it... any advice on if this is a good idea?

  • rofl have fun putting it back on

  • I fixed my old spin wheel iPods all the time, this was a whole new story. The touches are such a pain and very touchy to work on. Helpful writeup but still miserable and not nearly as easy to work on as the old ones

  • @PowerbookMedic thanks... i can't wait to get started... :|

  • well directed video, the music makes it less stressful. my ipod lock button at the top probably needa to be replaced. it still works but you have to apply more pressure. so to replace/fix it, i really have to take EVERYTHING out? (: ((

  • @majinjovan - Yes, you'll need to take everything out for your issue.

  • Does the screen just snap back on?

  • hi, my 4thgen touch has an issue with the touch screen. when i type on it the keys sometimes take a few hits and i cant touch and hold an app to move them around do you have any idea what it could be

  • @Jake93r17 - You likely need to replace the digitizer.

  • @Smilealot246 - It could be a loose cable, but there is not way to know until you open it up.

  • hmm. that's probably what I did. should the home button be independent of the touch sensing then? thanks for the tip.

  • Hey great video, helped clear some things up. one question. I took mine apart to replace the headphone jack, but now the touch sensor and home button arent working . Is there another connector asides from the top left corner I could've missed or screwed up? Thanks. Also, out of curiosity, what does the small gold spring do? Peace man.

  • @tortashop - There is just one connector for the digitizer, so if you've verified the cable it connected, you may have damaged the cable.

  • @tortashop hey man, do you think you could tell me how to replace the headphone jack fo the ipod touch 3rd gene bc i need to replace it because its not working. so could you please tell me how?

  • @DALLASCHEDULE - You'll like need to replace the home button assembly if you're having problems with it, but yes, this video will show you how to disassemble the Touch to get to it.

  • Hey, My ipod touch 3gen, won't turn on. I plug it in the charger and wait but all it does is go to the silver apple and shut down. Then it does it all over again. Please help!

  • @Peopleannoymebitch - It is likely a logic board issue. I'd recommend getting it professionally diagnosed.

  • How can I fix my headphone jack 3rd gen itouch

  • @xXSHARKXx408 - You can open the ipod to replace the headphone board. We sell replacement parts at our website.

  • Hey, am i able to repair my headphone jack by doing this?

  • I have a iPod touch and wham I turn it on it says slide to unlock and I try sliding it over to unlock it but the screen don't work cuz it want slide and unlock or do anything...what do I do??? please comment me back

  • @xkaylanicholex - You will likely need to replace your touchscreen digitizer panel.

  • On my ipod the audio port doesnt allow any noise to come out of the left side of any speaker or headphone but if i play with the cord it will eventually play... How should i fix this problem: thanks

  • @sugrue6 - You likely just need to replace your headphone board. They are available from our website.

  • My charging port is bent out of place. Is there any way to replace it?

  • @iplaydrumswoot - Unlikely. You will usually do more damage to the port, but if it isn't working anyway, it might be worth a shot.

  • So does the logic board hold the RAM and internal memory?

  • @GooglingStuff - Yes.

  • @PowerbookMedic ok thanks. is their a way to remove the bottom part of the logic board from the top part? do you know of any videos that show how to do this?

  • hey i smashed my ipod in a car door on accident it still workds you can kinda see se the screen but there is a huge dent in the back screen and my screen i was wondering if maybe the dent is hitting somethging that is causing the screen to look like that how to i fix it it can easily be unbent

so do i just take it a prat and unbend it

  • @imadeitalltheway - You can't unbend it. You'll likely need to replace the back case and the LCD.

  • @PowerbookMedic so how much do thise usually cost

  • @imadeitalltheway - You can call us to get a quote at 1-866-726-3342.

  • hello, i dropped my ipod touch on the floor and thee is a dent on the bottom right corner. it can be easilly "unbent" but i would have to get inside it but i have the 4th generation and i think that its different. i am not sure but i cant find any tutorials so i figured out that i might as well ask on a 3rd gen tutorial. thanks,

  • @pucupucubumbum - It isn't as easy to "unbend" it as you would think. You should just get a replacement back case.

  • @PowerbookMedic ok. do you get the same serial number and stuff??? and also how should i replace it. should i send it to apple or should i just do the same that you did for the 3rdgen??? oh and thenks for accually replying. a lot of ppl dont. :)

  • @pucupucubumbum - No, a replacement back case would have a different serial #. You can call us to schedule a repair at 1-866-726-3342.

  • @PowerbookMedic i accually live in the uk, so i dont think that sending the ipod to america would be a very fast way to fix it. so what would happen if i called apple and they ask me for the serial number???

  • @pucupucubumbum - If you take it to Apple they'll likely fix it or tell you to buy a new iPod.

  • @PowerbookMedic well it still works, so i think that i might go to an apple store in 2011. thanks for the help :p have a happy new year :D

  • Hi, just tonight I stupidly took my iPod Touch apart without watching this, or any other tutorial video, and now whenever I turn my iPod Touch on, the screen is completely white with small streaks of different colors going down the center. Can you please tell me if I can still rescue the Touch? Like, is there a damaged part I could buy or replace, or maybe just doing something else? Please help me. Thank you. Your video is very informative by the way.

  • @Duncanshiftsix - You likely damaged the LCD, but you'd need a proper diagnosis to determine that since you could have also damaged the logic board or LCD connector when you went in the unit.

  • i checked and everything looks right but a little gold piece fell out is that important

  • i took my apart and it shut off then it wouldent turn on do u know whats wrong with it

  • @MexicanSuperFreinds - It could be any number of things. The first thing I'd do is go back in and make sure all your connectors are properly seated.

  • Can i put all the hardware from my 2g in a 3g case and from my 3g in my 2g case ? But switching the digitizers

  • @ioshelper - No.

  • Where is the memory drive?

  • @Juicythespider - The memory is built on the logic board.

  • And I don't think I wanna do that to my iPod #JustSaying

  • Apple is way too genius.......

  • im almost positive one of the charging pins in the 30 pin connector of my ipod is broken. would this require a whole replacement of the logic board? and do you know where the charging pins are located in the ipod? thanks

  • @kuz142 ok i might have been wrong about that maybe the is a cable loose that connects from the logic board. when i look in the 30 pin connector i cant see anything wrong

  • if you don't have a pudding knife whats the best alternitives

  • @andoo345 - We sell metal tools on our website that work better than the putty knife. They are called iPad opening tool, but they work great in iPods as well.

  • Hey is the 2nd gen have the same set up as the 3rd gen?

  • @hmglorboi1 - There are some differences in the models. Check our other videos for the 2nd gen guide.

  • So once i open it can i close it and it will be the same?

  • @ItsNotJane - Unless you break something, yes.

  • Well SOMEONE just voided the warranty

  • @CommAnd3rX10 idiot..., if you have the warranty you wouldn't have to repair it yourself

  • Hiiiiiiii

    Nice videos!

    How are you?

    bye

  • @TheMrBrandonShow best comment ever lol :D

  • @coolerRay12 Thanks :D
