Found this while looking for inspiration, which I also found. Going into the studio in a couple of weeks to play mando on an old-time demonstration CD. This is fresh without straying far from the roots.
@fiddlefeller That is great to hear! I'm glad you found something to built upon. "Fresh without straying far from the roots" is kind of what I strive for, so thanks for those words!
Beautiful! Had to learn it right away! Thanks. Annoyingly I was looking for the Irish one (I believe this one is originally Sherman's March to the Sea) but I can only find the harpsichord masterpiece posted by lorgain2. Who cares now I know this! I'm going to do a set of this, Bonaparte's Retreat (the Scots one as played by Aly Bain) and The Drummers of England. Yummy!
I listened to this tune a bunch & now it is buzzing around my head. I guess I'll have to work it up now. I really like your interpretation of it and your playing.
Thanks Mandolin1944! (And all the rest of you leaving nice comments.)
The backup guitar is played by me, and recorded after the mandolin video was shot. It's a bit tricky to get it right doing it that way, it feels a little backwards.
I built the mandolin myself about 2.5 years ago from a kit. It's nice, but I'm saving for something nicer!
are washburn mandys any good, theres one in a music shop for $350au and tit comes with a starter kit. please tell me what there like ive got the money burning a hole in my posket
The chords: Part A: D/Bm/GD/A D/Bm/GA/D Part B: D/GD/GD/A D/Bm/GA/D With a capo on the 2nd fret: Part A: C/Am/FC/G C/Am/FG/C Part B: C/FC/FC/G C/Am/FG/C
Thanks so much for posting this. Both sad and happy. Another tune to hum strolling down a country road.

Very cool! Nice version of this great tune.
Good clean picking and lots of double stops and chords stuck in there -- bravo!
How did you arrange your backup guitar - is someone there with you or is it pre-recorded?
And what kind of a mandolin are you using?
Thanks for posting!

I have no idea about Washburn mandos! I think Eastman mandolins have a pretty good reputation regarding getting 'bang for the buck'...

could you give me a basic idea of the chords over the top for guitar? its a bit hard to hear
