The thing about this routine is that it doesn't have a lot of elements and is over fast but it took full advantage of the Code Of Points at the time. The overbar full-Def combo was a D-SuperE combo of .6 points: half the bonus needed for the ten. As well she had the giant pirouette to overshoot which was a .3 bonus combo. The double-double was another Super E. Few elements but pack and combines them well enough to get the maximum 10 start value.
i would give this a 9.3... .4 for not hitting 2 handstands, .1 for leg seperation on the def, and .2 for step on dismount... i wasnt even judging that harshley
I mean its not the most interesting bars routine but she met the minimum requirements for the bars but now the CoP is extremely strict. she was a very smart gymnast to do hard releases and her dismount.
Such a simple gold medal routine, agree with the fact that it's basically just 2 skills, and cannot express how upset I was when Khorkina missed the handstand. Can't even imagine where it would have even slotted in if it was '08 against Kexin, Liukin, Yilin, Tweddle AND Semenova.
@bernardmvella that's not really fair because you can't compare routines between codes. Tweddle's & Liukin's routines were worth the same as this in the Athens quad & I'm sure LePennec would have upped her difficulty to adjust to the new code.
@catieekemp point taken but I still stand by not liking her routine... I feel like a gymnast like Mo Huilan who never won a UB title would be a serious contender today though, and she's from way back...
Im glad she won the gold on uneven bars. I mean now, its just either America, Russia, China, or Romania getting the medals. You rarely see other countries other than the Big 4 getting medals.
I'm so glad I'm not in the minority.... when I saw this on TV 6 years ago...I just didn't know what to think.... It's difficult and flashy... her form (minus the dismount) wasn't catastrophic.... but a gold medal?
Man.... with out Khorkina and Li Ya bars really did stink during this quad....
i remember the bronze medalist a billion times more then i remember emilee. like everyone said, basically all she had was the def and the dismount. the dismount actually isnt really all that special in my opinion. so sad. if you could learn a def in 2004 and have bad form during it, youd be olympics champion
A release like that is a lot more difficult for the women than the men...it's a G for the women and an E for the men. It was a bad landing, but not the worst landing...at least her head wasn't 2 inches off the ground but I hate how she had to turn to the judges quickly.
This routine is lacking in content though, but this isn't all of what French gymnastics is about, not short routines with 2 moves in them, watch Youna Doufornet who does this release and other neat combinations!
it would of been better if she added in more pirouettes but you have to admit her release and dismount were really hard. I don't think as much was required back then in the code of points because this was using the old system...
wouldn't it have been better if after her cast she had a front hip circle, a sole circle full pirrouette, giant swing then giant swing hop full then def regrasp then kip to a reverse stalhder then reverse direction thru to a pak salto cast to handstan half pirrouette then toe on transition from LB to HB then cast front hip circle to two giant swings and then double double...ayos!
@ispaht This was back in the old system, when not as much from the CoP was required... she met the minimum requirements needed to be included but did the most difficult skills in those requirements, meaning she had just as high a difficulty with less moves to be deducted for. it may not be very interesting but it was a smart way to get to gold. Shes a forgettable olympian though, I must agree... so many of the other competitors were better!!
hey, you're doing a great job, please post some videos of Andreea Raducan, the true olympic champion of 2000 ;) And really loved this routine, was awesome...
She does the most difficult version of this dismount: its a back salto in and then TWO TWISTS in the second salto!! Extremely difficult. She twists very very very very fast XD

Well, I don't care what anyone else thinks, I was very impressed by her routine, and I will always remember her winning the gold :-D

DAMN, she got lucky but it was an excellent fast routine... Wish she would've stuck that last hand stand before the dismount tho... <3

but at least it was nice to see a gold medal go to someone outside of the big 4 (Russia, China, Romania, USA)

@jony7779 Really you think you can do it better than her ?
Did you go to the Olympics ? Did you win gold medal ? Are you an olympic champion on the uneaven bars? NO ...
So shut up and leave her fucking dismount alone. She won, there's no need to add anything else !

@nini0033 She only won because Khorki fell.

She has horrible form and, although the dismount was a amazing, her landing was sloppy and ugly, for lack of a better word.

Agree. Her routine was basically the Def and the dismount itself.
