not much need for this tbh, i prefered the old pixelated feel to the game, it gave it that edge and actually was so much scareyer when you met lechuck for the first time...back in the 90s this was one of my favourites to play on the Amiga! But i was always playing these too... Beneath a steel sky, Gobliiins, Goblins 2 and Goblins 3. Valhalla Before/after the war, The lost rain forest. Flight of the amazon queen. Indiana jones fate of atlantis, Sam & Max. Discworld (ps1) and Day of the tentactle.
@Nint3ndoFan PC....... everytime. the original beats this matey :) YARRRRRRRRR! this is alot like the curse of monkey island which is how the sequel should have been instead of 3D. :-( really made me mad, i didnt play that one simply because it had lost its touch. but they have finnally got back to reality :D same engine as the curse of monkey island i think..? anyway PC is always better you can controll it easier
Well, all I found were reumours as well, but they are pretty strong ones-even Alexandra Boyd (voice of Elaine) let it slip that she was doing more voice recording. Heck, Lucasarts said in an issue of Retro Gamer that March would be a special month for fans, so I would look forward to the Game Developers Conference.
I played this game for the Amiga, way back when. I got quite far but then discovered a walkthrough in 'Amiga Power' magazine and started using that. Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!! :-D
Quick question. I'm going to get Monkey Island since I loved the trial version for the Xbox Live Arcade, it's just so charming. But I HATE puzzle games as to me they just ruin the pacing and are just a cheap way to make a game long. How long do they take to figure out roughly (without hints or one or two occasionally)?
Your review is OK, but you've fallen prey to the Youtube Reviewer Syndrome.
The digs aimed at people like 360 users are unwarranted. The system is popular, so there are a lot of idiots on it, but saying 360 users will need their hands held is freaking stupid and stinks of elitism.
I stopped watching the review at that point. The comment adds nothing but bias to your review and lowers your credibility.
After seeing amazing PC games series like Deus Ex, Rainbow Six and Fallout (and BioShock, when compared to System Shock) ruined by the dumbing down they go through when developers start making for console gamers as well as (or instead of) PC gamers, I have little but contempt for consoles.
That's fair enough, I just got the impression you've taking a dig at the actual players when many of us (myself included) are ex-PC gamers who have shifted over due to the ease-of-use inherent in a console environment.
I could perhaps understand it if this was on the Wii... Since that console is directly made as an 'intro to gaming' machine, but the 360?
Anyway, I do agree they're dumbed down often. I think games have gotten easier for the most part these days. It's not always a bad thing.
@antisocialfatman I couldn't agree with you more. I miss games that treated me like I either had a brain and a complete moron if I was being stupid (E.G. Space Quest). That type of challenge is good training especially for practice in remembering things, problem solving, taking in one time instructions, and intuition. Now a days games just seem as if they are brain dead and more like movies because it's easier than walking in a park on rails. But look at the pretty lights! ugh.
Hmm..don't know what type of new games you've been playing, but I used to be really good at the Halo games untill I stopped playing them for like 2 years. I decided to come back to the first game on Legendary, and I had to tone down the difficulty because I completely forgot everything about the game and the game was killing me because my memory was absolutely gone and I pretty much forgot all the tactics. Ever since, I played more now my skills are back.
@Nurr0 However you must come to the realization that this is true (trust me I play a lot of old and new games). I even sat in a S.O.T.G.I. class and the statistics were casual games are more popular. You know what a casual game is? It's not rating, not style, not setting, it's challenge. Halo, Bioshock, ex.. are all walks in the park. Reason are that there is no real punishment for losing. You fail, you take NO steps back. That is boring and leads to bad habits that make gaming more boring.
Umm..I beg to differ. Halo and Bioshock do somewhat punish you if you fail. You just simply reload back to the checkpoints or vita chambers. Yes, I know it's not as punishing compared to Castlevania or Contra, but it's simply just taking out the frustration that's all. Not only that, games now have advanced AI which can change the experience at times. I think games are just easy to play, but hard to master nowadays. I just think it's not as frustrating like it was.
@JerichoSupporter So then why can I beat Halo on legendary with no trouble? How come Bioshock feels piss easy on it's hardest difficulty? I love when a game can make me feel like a literally have to keep my character alive as much as I can and if I lose I go back enough to never make me want to go back again. Megaman is a great example of this. The game creates tension and excitement that truly make you feel great when you meet victory. Now it's just...whoohoo next level. :|
@thedragonb0y I don't think you understood what I was talking about. I was talking about the game's design, not YOUR or MY skill. What I meant is Halo never gave me any real tension because I always knew that if I died I would always go back about 2 or 3 feet from were I was. This meant the game never really makes you want to survival which means the game becomes repetitive. The concept of a game like Halo is to CHALLENGE you which means it needs to have bigger losses. It didn't deliver.
Like I said, it's just trying to get rid of frustration-it's proabably related to technology. Like when FPS games were coming out, they added load/save features to keep the game from getting frustrating. So basically you're saying every FPS game has no challenge :P. Nah, I'm j/k. I get what you're saying man. I understand you. You have a different definition of challenge compared to me lol. But dude trust me if you want games that will punish you, play I Want To Be The Guy :D.
@JerichoSupporter Oh hell no I'm not talking about that kind of crap! XDD
IWBTG is a poorly designed game made to be more like a joke than anything else.
If you want a good example of what I'm talking about when it comes to tension, is to play a game like Resident Evil or System Shock 2 for real. Great rewards and great punishments. Challenges can be done in a very fun way. Keep in mind that I am not just talking about FPS games. There is a difference between challenging and frustrating.
Not really a big fan of Survival Horror, I like playing games like Doom or Quake-you know, you're like a one man army, but you take down crapload of monsters. But then again, I do play the COD games and you're pretty much vulnerable in that game, but I doubt it's nothing compared to survival horror since I know you have scarce resources and ammo. Basically, all I just want in a game is where I feel like im unstoppable and then I don't at times. That's good enough for me.
It depends on the gamers taste. I mean I totally get that some people prefer you know feeling vulnerable and feel like they have to be on complete task of their character. I only burrowed Bioshock so I can't talk much about it. As a Halo player, I'm not going to lie it, it's not the hardest game in the world, but just cause you beat the game, doesn't mean it's easy. For example, I think my definition of an easy game is me going through a blind run without dying or feeling fear.
i love this game i have been a big monkey island fan who only started playing them in 2001 when i finally bought the 3rd i never felt ripped off by it or disapointed the voicework with all the cast from monkey 3 was brilliant and i think that added a new depth to it so i say get out your credit card folks and buy it now lol

I played it back in the day. But I got stuck because I'm thick and walkthru's weren't invented back then. I think I'll give this one a shot. Full Throttle next please!
Shame that Brutal Legend isn't coming to PC. I've always loved Schafer's stuff in recent years.
That really depends on you. If you can blow through the puzzles, you could finish it in maybe 4 or 5 hours. If you get stuck a few times, it could be 6 to 9 hours or more.
There's a huge margin of error with predicting length of adventure games.
@antisocialfatman hi what is your fave monkey island? also have you played full throttle, sam and max hit the road ,fate of Atlantis, blade runner, grim fandango and broken sword 1and 2 ?
I disagree entirely on the old art being at odds with the comedic tone. I thought the two mixed perfectly, while the cartoonish style is the one at odds with the tone for me. It looks decidedly kiddy to me, not stylized at all like some other cartoonish art styles. It looks like something from one of Dreamworks' crappy kids' CG movies, like Madagascar or something.
Though not that I'd nerd-rage about any rape of my memories of the first game over that.
The first game i ever played was Escape from Monkey island, which to this day is one of my favorite games.
Not long after i got it i found out there were 3 others and i then found and bought every game.
I still have all of them but im still gonna get this one. Not only because its monkey island but because its a game lucasarts made after 2000 that didn't suck balls.
I really hope they remake Loom, thats one of my favorite adventure games.
Great review! As a fan of the original, I was a bit on the fence of picking up this "special edition" (especially giving the record of such editions linked to the name Lucas...), but I'm definitely sold now.
Also, your review seems to cut off your last comments at the very end.
I think you're thinking of the Tales of Monkey Island, a recent release by Telltale games, not the Secret of Monkey Island reviewed here. The later being only released on PC and Xbox 360. Unless there are news of a Wiiware release I've missed.
