Yesm im whatching this with a wifi hacked by bt 5 , and signal is just 10, a few hours ago i have 28 :S , some problem as going , is justin bieber stoling my wireless signal hacked ?
@kchesterk Either Way Works Fine. I tested both ways and it does not make any difference. Metal reflects signal, paper does not. The 2.4GHz wavelength passes right through the paper and hits the metal on either side. The paper just holds it together. If you used plate metal, you could skip the paper altogether.
@MrStropwen Possibly, but a wardriver usually has such a good antenna that could pick it up anyway. For safety use WPA2 encryption and long passwords. My biquad antenna can pick up a nonboosted signal from 1000 feet away, easily. I don't wardrive, but it sure would be easy to do. From my front yard I can see 14 routers with no security at all. They will get wardriven first. Secure hotspots are usually ignored since there are so many easy pickings.
To do this easier. Just take the file folder, cut down the seam, trim off the tab and fee it through the printer to print the template on. Glue the foil on the opposite side, cut out the template, put together, done.
@firaszul99 See my video on inSSIDer. This program lets you see and chart your wifi signals in db strength. A gain of 2-3 decibels is a big increase. The signal always fluctuates, but if their is a significant gain, you should see it. You can also use it dial in your antenna positioning and find dead spots, see neighboring wifi signals, etc.
does it matter if my antenna is omnidirectional. i have a netgear router and im having trouble getting a connection in my separate part of my house. my current antenna is 2dBi
@lSKABZl Almost all router antennas are omnidirectional bipoles. You can use this helps to boost the signal into the direction of your weakest signals.
@streetsmartdude No, the paper has no effect on the antenna performance, the signals pass through it and hits the metal. The paper just stiffens the build. So, it really doesn't matter which side the paper is on. If you made this out of stiffer metal, you wouldn't even need the paper.
@MAGHUYOP86 Just the back part need foil. It is a parabolic arc that focuses the reflection. If the other parts are foil it might interfere with the focusing.
@TheNBkNation It works either way. The paper does nothing to stop the wifi radio waves. They will pass right through it and bounce off the metal the same as if they hit the metal first.
@TheNBkNation I tested it both ways and it seems to make no difference. It is not light that is reflecting, but radio waves, so all that matters is that the metal is there. I put shiny outwards in this video
@srlewis76 You do realize it doesn't matter where side it is, right? As long as it has aluminum, the signal will bump into it and it will work properly.
It's not like the file folder is going to make it less efficient.
@pejeno Thanks for backing me up. I have tried repeatedly and unsuccessfully to explain to my viewers that paper is not going to block the signal bounce. :-)
@breckerocks Will the radio waves get confused? Are the atoms in the Reynolds Wrap aligned wrong? Oh Noz!! What will they do?! I must tell the radio waves before they get here!
I have a verizon wireless router. I made the antenna, I dont think I placed it correctly as the signal has not really changed. The router is on the 1st floor in my office. The family uses notebooks and wireless cell phones on other two levels. should I have a router per floor? I have the antenna facing the router.
@vitormangraviti Incorrect, I tested this with a signal strength monitor and it makes no difference. This follows the original installation instructions. The signal goes right through the cardboard and hits the foil, so it doesn't matter what side it is on. Consider that wifi goes through brick walls, and then how little 5 mil of cardboard changes things.
It makes a standard 3db antenna perform as well as a 5 db antenna. (Every 3 db is considered to be doubling the signal strength) On antenna's that are already high powered, it doesn't help much. It's definitely worth 10 minutes and a folder to try.

Should i have this pointed at the device i want a stronger connection too or does it matter?
tomcatbball34 2 weeks ago
@tomcatbball34 Yes, this makes your antenna more directional and therefore stronger, however, you will now need to aim it.
crazypcdude 2 weeks ago
@crazypcdude also my router has 2 antennas so will i need to make two, one for each antenna?
tomcatbball34 2 weeks ago
@tomcatbball34 For best performance yes, however it is not 100% required.

question, the foil should be inside, right? Or it should be on the outside like the one on this video?

Wouldn't this also increases the chance of an attack from a wardriver?

isn't the foil supposed to by facing inwards? The way you have it, the signals will not be strengthened
