Meseret Defar Named Female World Athlete of the Year.
at age 23, she has been crowned as the 2007 Female World Athlete of the Year during the World Athletics Gala hosted by International Athletic Foundation (IAF). first African woman to be crowned with this title in the history of World Athlete.
Winner of all her races this season, including two world records.
Haile Gebreselassie who broke world records more than 26 times including the Marathon, received Inspirational Award.

because of Chinas poor air quality many world athletics may follow Haile and not participate!!
