My border terrier is 6 months old and she can sit, stay (ish), lie down and roll over, but only when you bribe her. Is there a way of getting them to do tricks when you don't have a treat in your hand? Thanks.

Terriers are fantastic- they can be hard work but the hard work you put into them, you get back 100%- such clever, feisty little things! :)

charlie is cool. I have one too called rusty and they are such a smart breed. Rusty is very loyal but a bit jealous when my partner comes over haha

Hi, I wouldn't worry to much about the hand biting thing, most puppys do this when their teething, they will grow out of it. It sometimes helps if you shout 'OWW! when they bite so they get the message that biting is wrong.

We have a Border terrier Gizmo Finn, he is adorable and yes so easy to train, he was paper trained within three days of getting him at 6 weeks and fully within a few months

he can, sit, lay,give paw & the other High five both sides, roll over play ninja and alsobeg and stand oh yes and play dead and this all taught him before he was 10months! look at our videos of him :)

@mssoccer1133 No unlike most terriers, Borders are fairly easy to train. I was able to house break my puppy in less than two months and taught him all the basic commands before he was one. He wasn't much of a trick dog though. He didn't like to play fetch but he enjoyed being chased around.

Borders are great dogs, they're a lot of fun to own. My dobby is the sweetest dog ever, i love him to death but he doesn't get along with other dogs, like a lot of terriers. If you socialize them properly when they're younger they're normally fine but I just thought you should know :)

I'v never had a dog before. But I've always wanted one. The Border Terrier seems like an obvious choice. I have one question tho, do they dislike warm weather. Like a climate in Nevada for example

They can tolerate some warm weather, but they say any constant exposure over 85 degree's will drain them.

We live in Adelaide Australia and it gets over 100 here in summer and our Border Terrier seems ok, just make sure there's plenty of fresh water...
