Totally brill. :) As Greg mentions I distinctly heard the origin of the waiter's name, Manuel (he from Barthelona) in Eric mindboggling tiresome tirade :) So this is where it came from. Manuel was at one point a household name here in Sweden. Beat that!
*sob* This is why I'm so proud of being born on the same day as Eric Idle... *wipes tear*. WHAT a rant, all of my proverbial hats go ff to 'im.
I wish they'd used Anne Elk again - just looking at John Cleese dressed like that is enough to cause deaths by comedy...And then that voice and mannerisms...Jeez, how funny can you get?!?!
God they're funny. I'm watching it again at school so the sound is off. I just randomly moved the slider to the middle of the episode, Graham and Anne Elk (That's Anne Elk, not er Elk) are sitting there looking around, then suddenly THRUST appears in giant letters on the screen. SOOOO funny.
Well, "new" in the sense he altered some product names and cultural references for an American audience.
As for how he remembers it, Eric's a professional so I wouldn't put it past him to memorize the whole thing (I mean if the fans can do it...) but let's not forget about cue cards, it is tv after all...
The credits appeared early in the episode (at the five minute mark), 'youtubrgirl', disguised as the end credits of the "All-England Summarize Proust Competition" sketch {see "Season 3, Episode 5-1"}.
oh sorry 100yearoldwhiskey! i was about to leave a reply, but pressed the "spam-button" by an accident. Anyways, the reply should have been: Yea it's a shame that BBC cuts out everything that's interesting :)
i could NOT stop laughing at Anne Elk. she (or he) kept on coughing and seemed so thick headed. my favorite part was when anne would cough higher and higher. ahahahaha
After looking through "Monty Python: All the Words Volume 2", it turns out the whole thing actually was scripted. Either way, it was crazy when he did it at the Hollywood Bowl with no prompting. Amazing.
well, thats his style. he wrote it see? anything with a really really long line or something that plays with the english language (ex. the detective that couldnt introduce himself right) is his style. so, i guess he remembers them better than the other pythons.
My favourite part is from 3:39 to the end :P

How the hell does he remember it all ?
gothykitten 3 years ago 4
He probably locked himself in a room and went through it over and over again. Or he's just naturally talented.

improv, i think... there's no other way. He does a whole new set for the hollywood bowl

He didn't have to. He improvised the whole thing! In "Live at the Hollywood Bowl" it was even longer!

@Elric33239 And he had to yell it into his mike while running too...Sheer awesomeness.

Just amazing. This episode was a little slow in the middle, but then the travel agent sketch and Anne Elke (Mrs.) one right after the other!
greg5566 3 years ago
Are you saying this episode is fast at one end, much, MUCH slower in the middle, and then fast again on the other end?
Bobstew68 3 years ago 9
I have another theory, my theory the second which together with the first comprise my two theories on this episode.
