I followed him from Crokenhill and Gillingham right the way through. Not exactly Neymar and yes, he did score A LOT of headers but it fills my heart to see so many positive comments about my childhood hero. Cheers Cas!
It turned out his mother was adopted so no Irish blood but he didn't know until halfway through his career and FIFA confiremd he would have been eligible anyway.
Full Time is the best sport autobiography I've ever read.
i had already knew about the controversy concerning cascarino non-irish ancestry, but what was his real background? Cascarino sounds like an italian surname
Forza Marseille. I am a Marseile fan who believe that everything was possible as long as cascarino was on the pitch. He made us forget a bit of the superstar as Papin, Voller and all. Most important striker OM had after relegation to D2
He never had an Irish Grandmother, and should never have been eligable to play for Ireland. Does anyone have his goal against England back in 91'? Havent seen it in 15 years.
@MrHopeTelevision he wasn't - it was found out his "Irish" grandmother was actually originally italian but adopted into an Irish family which made him ineligible to play for ireland lol....but i was too late by the time they found that out...
@MrHopeTelevision look I don't know what way it works but his Irish granny wasn't a blood relative, therefore making him ineligible to play for Ireland by Fifa's rules. By the time he found this out it was 1996 he had already over 50 caps for Ireland lol,,,,
@MrHopeTelevision Fifa doesn't abide by the laws of any country - it makes it's own rules which all the participating countries have to abide by. So if a player is taking part in a tournament he has to abide by the Fifa/Sporting body's rules. Cascarino was ineligible to play if that was the case.
@Shaftsus well he evidently abided by those rules since he got to play for ireland. even if didnt really think he was eligble, he actually was so what is your argument?

His book is good. The updated audiobook - 60 minutes with Tony Cascarino is even better. And this video reminds us of what a great player Cas was

If you get the chance, have a read at his book "full time"...takes a lot of guts to be as open and honest as he has in it.

Cas was a hero to OM.
He wasn't the most skillful forward in the world but he had heart and brought OM back to ligue 1.
Read his autobiography, probably the best and most honest ever from a footballer.

I think you are allowed citizenship thru adoption so he is fine to be called irish
