This song has been haunting me for over 40 years now...rattling around inside my head at the most unexpected of times. Of course I had some of the lyrics missing and wrong and my mind had filled in the gaps with lyrics of it's own so I finally decided to Google it and there it was. Still safe and now I know the real lyrics. The ultimate earworm.
The problem with this version is it doesn't explain WHY she grabbed the crank, and yanked it. People don't just turn on giant sausage makers for no reason. XD
it's because in most version's "his wife was having a nightmare/she was walking in her sleep/she cave the crank a heck of a yank, and dunderbeck was meat" which removes the conscious thought process of it
OH my gosh I listened to this song wayyyy too much when I was little--my dad sang it to me all the time---and now I've taught my 3-year-old this song.He sings it at KFC teehee
This honestly creeped me out when I heard it as a kid. Of course, it wasn't by what sounded like a sweet old woman, and in the version I remember the guy gets overpowered by a kid he tries to force into it. I may be mixing it up though. This does bring back memories...
I was raised with my mum and aunt constanly singing this ^-" It's a lot more vigorous when German women sing it, I'll tell you for free xD

Back about thirty years ago a speciality butcher - mostly sausages - opened in Atlanta's Cumberland Mall.
It was named "Mr Dunderback's"...

The way I heard it was
One day the thing got busted, the darn thing wouldn't go.
so dunderbeck he crawled inside, to see what made it so.
His wife was in a nightmare, walking in her sleep
She gave the crank a heck of a yank and dunderbeck was meat.

Actually, there's so many different versions of the song. I've heard almost all of them. There's so many variants of the solo part.
The this is the one I heard from my great grandmother from a long time ago.
However, I remember it a different way better.
