cont. and I think they should continue to do tests or whatever to get a better understanding of her, maybe she has something totally different , we may never know until we look into it more and not just throw an already existing illness so quickly.
very interesting video, yours and the video in the description. A topic like this was somewhat similar to a topic I just did an assignment on in Philosophy about how perspective is relative, not all is the same. There might be realities intertwined within how most people view thing and some people see what they see and to them that is their reality. Also one of my nieces has autism and she does show sign of that, however she could have a mixture of illnesses instead of just one.
Could you do me a favour and learn science before you have a go at people who do their job? What they have done might be wrong, however you are not helping since you are obviously absolutley uneducated on science.
The definition of science is the observation of the natural world through the scientific method. The human mind is part of the natural world. Psychology makes use of the scientific method. Thus psychology is a science. Any "psychologist" that does not use the scientifc method can't be taken very serious since the scientific mehtod is the best way to gain knowledge about the outside world.
I study physics. And I assure you that Quantum Mechanics doesn't have anything to do with this.
A diagnosis should never be complete. Psychiatrists have to make a diagnosis so that they know how to treat the patient. However when new evidence from the patient or science comes in he might have to change the diagnosis.
No it doesn't. As I said a first diagnosis need to be made in order to have a first hinch what it could be. As new evidence comes in you then have to adjust the diagnosis.
For example: A psychiatrist might diagnose someone with schizophrenia, later however depressive elements get discovered. Thus he might change the diagnosis to schizoaffective disorder. The first diagnosis was however still usefull since it gave a fist hinch. Treatment for both illnesses is similar anyways.
Why would you give these drugs to a seven year old?
Because she has a mental conditins that is doing her harm. This mental condition needs to be treated. Whether these drugs are effective or whether the side effects are too strong is a seperate question.
You want to know why the DMCA and other handbooks are rewritten? Because science gets better and better. If we didn't update our knowledge we would still be believing in bronze age myths and most of modern medicin would not exist.
It seems to me that every time they are rewritten, they don't exactly narrow down what a disease's symptoms are, they get broadened so much that a person suffering depression can get labeled with having EVERYTHING wrong with them, because the symptoms intertwine. Not long ago, manic depression and bipolar disorder used to be considered to separate afflictions, now they're both the same. Also, most modern medicine is based on bronze age myths, and gets put on the market with improper testing.
Have you ever considered that they might actually have everything wrong with them? For example if you have strong depression it is likely you also get hallucinations etc...
Further what is wrong with making mainc depression and bipolar disorder the same... maybe it really IS the same? We make new discoveries all the time and of course these discoveries need to be taken over in medicin. This is how science works. This is how we get better.
@someguy827 I'll tell you I suffer from ADHD and had to go on addreal for most of my childhood life. You know what the greatest thing I ever did in my life?.................stop taking it. MY mind is free and i can get high on my own hyperactivity and love life again.
She is probably telling the truth about what she perceives, but if her perception would be correct that would go against anything we know about human perception and the universe. Occam's razor, a principle of logic, just dictates that we are to accept the conclusion that was she sees does not actually exist.
Sure, an English philosopher from the 14th century who has been dead from hundreds of years should be the one that dictates reason to people in the 21st century. You can accept that conclusion, but as physicist I wonder why you would, considering the nature of your work.
I agree that her parents should not abonden her. And I agree that sometimes medication doesn't work. However the medication she gets has been shown in studies to work. That is why she gets it. If they do not work on her that may be an argument for taking her off them however.
I think your rant at the scientific community is inappropriate. As a science student I can assure you that scientists do not think that we have discovered everything Especially in the cognitive sciences this is not the case
I did make a video response to this...though quite hostile toward the parents. There were a lot of loose ends that weren't initially reported about it. They admitted to beating the kid as hard as they could, and to starving her. My point is...she didn't need the medication either way. Now they're just giving it to her because it keeps her mouth shut, otherwise the parents would be in jail for child abuse. I could link to entries that state that from her fathers former blog.

Psychology is an admitted non-science.

"A diagnosis should never be complete."
That just invalidated your whole point.

I don't except Occam's razzor because a philosopher said I should. I except because it is logicly valid.
