  • My second favorite group of all time. The orginial band of couse. My first favorite is the Bealtles. That, to me, is quite a compliment to Dire Straits.

  • Thanks for posting this. No one compares to MK - regarding post by jbawn - I saw MK interviewed and he said that Twisting by the Pool was a song he was embarrassed to have written and performed!

  • Great to see this. Twisting by the pool the only dire straits song i never liked though

  • LOL@Mark playing the guitar with a cigarette in his fretting hand. SHOWOFF!

  • "You just call em you know, you call em, we'll try and play them! Mark is such a stand up and a very humble guy!

  • Ah man, At 2:47 when he starts Down to the Waterline I actually get chills up and down my Body. My eyes got all watery too.

  • thanks for sharing

  • Man, it's too bad David Knopfler and Pick Withers didn't stick around with the band, because they were DYNAMITE.

  • Fuck, those close ups! Ahhh Mark...

  • i LOVE Mark's hair. God he was so skinny yet so sexy...

  • The best part from 0:00 to 58:19 ;) that's all

  • David sounds very uninteresting in this documentary. Mark, Pick and John are heroes. Dire straits forever!

  • Thanks so much for uploading this film. I LOVE IT !!!

  • The last statement by David.. that doing 300 shows will cause the music to suffer.... how wrong he was.... their videos of the 85/86 and 91/92 concerts showed the band's unbelievable musicianship and their music was simply out of this world!

  • thanks again looping. There are/were so few intimate interviews especially with the entire straits that this early portrait is a gem, a keeper.

  • mark gets out of nothing....all,today many kids have gibson, fender and the best and most expensive guitars as their first guitar.....and they get out of all......nothing.............the times changed...........mark tried to feel the guitar, not to buy any sound...

  • @goldenstrings04 Very true my friend.Wise words. Just goes to show most kids today got everything handed to them, they arent hungry nor do they have good taste or listen to good music to aspire to be something.Im saying most kids not all but the majority of them.Ive got a niece & i asked what does she want to do when she grows up? she said she wants to be like lady gagaa & be famous. All they want is to be famous - famous for what? Nothing.Do something first.Anyway enough of me rambling.Rock on.

  • wow! I've had this documentry on VHS many years ago. very exiting to see it again, and even in HQ quality. Thanks for Uploading!! i'll even say Well Done!!

Dire Straits forever, for we are all brothers in arms...

  • Early Straits were bigger than any of the band could believe. Incredible talent and the claw hammer style of play was phenominal. They only got better over the years. Great group to listen to for hours at a time.

  • This manager is a total wanker... Imagine how much he'd regret saying that... in 1985 when Brothers in Arms was released...

  • Belle gaffe d'Europe 1! Sinon documentaire très intéressant

  • Makes me a little sad, to see these guys so young. And then to think about the brothers and wonder what happened. This early Dire Straits is such a genuine band. While Knoplfer is always one of my very favorite musicians no matter what sidemen, I law the real feel of the early band. I hope the other three made enough money to retire!

  • @1970porsche9146 Yeah. Basically David got tired of playing with Mark. John definitely made enough to retire as he was the only one to stay all the way through to the end. Although I love the later stuff, it was really not the same band.

MARK KNOPLER

  • @yekill1 I'm sorry, I wish I could understand what you wrote.

  • @Guy9998 i not speak english for the dire straits and your message i have google tradution i m sorry

  • @yekill1 No apologies necessary.

  • @Guy9998 thank...(grazie)

  • @Guy9998

    If I may intrude ... yekill1 said:

You are right. David after 2 years decided to go solo and lost all the band's fairytale. I can tell you that I saw the Straits 27 years ago at Wembley and I never forgot them. I left Milan with enough money for my ticket, in a word: unforgettable. And today when I see Sultans of Swing, I miss the real music and musicians of the past, Mark Knopfler.

  • @Found4words Thank you for the translation.

  • @Guy9998

    My pleasure!

  • It is good seeing interviews with pick david and john also...theres not many interviews around of the whole band that i have seen .

  • lol, even if their manager was, he managed a SUPERB band.

The sound Mark gets out of his Strat is something I can't copy, so bravo. Btw, French telly is best, they broadcast this :)

  • Is it just me or does their manager come across as a complete tosser?

  • Mark is such a cool guy without even trying to be.

  • Whats the song at 6:18 please ! Thank you

  • 'suicide towers' an unreleased song

  • This Song is Unknown I think only a short rehearsal : )

  • maybe a weird start of "setting me up" dire staits dire straits 1978??

    what you think?

  • if you find out please tell me.
