  • I once saw Corey Glover of Living Colour opening up a show with this song. Such a powerful song!

  • THIS IS EPIC LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cross and Christians, end to end,I examined. He was not on the Cross.I went to the Hindu temple,to the ancient pagoda. In none of them was there any sign.To the uplands of Herat I went, and to Kandahar.I looked. He was not on the heights or in the lowlands.Resolutely, I went to the summit of the mountain of Kaf.There only was the dwelling of the[legendary] Anqa bird.I went to the Kaaba of Mecca. He was not there.I looked into my own heart. In that, his place,I saw him.He was in no other place.

    he diserves more

  • good!

  • I played this all of the time, and used to LOVE this song.... well, I still do!

  • "truth is, we follow god! we've ALWAYS been behind em!"

  • Brlilliant. Enough said....

  • little mutherfucker Prince was my alternative to Michael Jackson! Fucking genious this

guy, thats why he is still alive! He didnt let the public get close enough to kill him!!!!!!!

  • Alle pubquizzers duim omhoog!

  • is prince god????? hmmmmm

  • I Love This Song!

  • Genius.

  • This track popped into my head for some reason last week. Still unbelievable all these years on.

  • The version from "Rave Unto the Year 2000" on DVD, is the MOST INCREDIBLE one ever! It's just amazing. I seriously cry when I watch that one. Prince, truly FEELS what he's singing in this song. Interesting how he changed the words "the Cross" to "The Christ" later on too. Guess he decided which part of the even was more important to focus on!

  • @ALxtreme It is probably because Prince at that time and now is a Jehovah's Witness. They do not believe that Christ was crucified on a cross..but a stake. Which is actually ridiculous. Also they do not believe that Jesus is divine despite many scriptures that testify of his divinity. I wonder what other lyrics he might have changed.

  • linda !!!!

  • I've Retuned! Who's with me? Anyone? Anyone? Buller? Chio.

  • Incredible song by the genius Prince. Poetic, prophetic and poignant!

  • I love this song

  • @thekingbradallmighty...honestly, a cross, a stake...point is He shed His blood.

  • Don't cry he is coming....

  • just powerful

  • Wonderful folk sounding song. How the hell does it? So damn talented

  • fucking brilliant.

  • Prince is such a genius songwriter. His brilliant music is timeless.

  • one of the greatest songs ever... very underrated ... someone needs to give it some air play

  • @americanhero0967 The ENTIRE Sign O' The Times is underrated! Agree, this song is very underrated. With the state of radio the way it is, don't expect it anytime soon. Least there's YouTube.

  • @EFunkRock My very favorite Prince album. It's like the Beatles White Album. So many styles, just a feast for the ears. I do love it, every song.

  • @EFunkRock THIS doesn't need air play... Its the belief, heart, and soul. The belivers, sinnners and such. I love this song I just need it!!

  • @chrystaldallas9 I agree with you on everything. Sometimes radio helps to introduce songs such as this to a more mainstream audience. Believe me, I never heard of this song until I saw the film and didn't get it. I bought the album back in 2000 and the spirit of the song just hit me. We all need messages like this song in our lives.

  • Putain...le morceau qui me rendait dingue quand j'avais 20 ans...j'viens de retoucher un pilone!!!!!!!

  • Prince was or Is a Jehovah witness. We don't believe he died on the cross. Jesus died on a stake.

  • @ 360gooden --...But like the many references that can be made of

those professing to be Christian, but committing acts against God's

will and way, it does not void the truth that the cross has become a

symbol of the hope we all have if we choose faith in Christ.

Feel free to ask more questions. twitter = @JesusSpoke

  • @livinsoulENT:

    FUCK OFF JW

    YOU ARE JUST ASSHOLES !

  • @ 360gooden --...I could

go on, but the point being, Jesus was not white, but since the KKK are

convinced He was they uphold Christianity and take the Bible out of

context to justify their racial hatred and intolerance, totally

ignoring the command and expectation of God to love one another in

    brotherhood etc.

  • @ 360gooden --...Some intermixture of whites with Africans and/or Asiatic

peoples did occur, but these were mostly in the higher echelons of

society (pharoahs, noblemen etc) so as to preserve Roman legitimacy to

rule over these lands...that still does not make the progeny white,

since they are the result of a racial intermixture of genes.

  • @ 360gooden --...since ancient Biblical lands were in

Africa and the Middle East where the only white people were the Romans

and Greeks who were present either because of the colonial conquest of

these lands by Rome or to study at the acclaimed schools of learning

in Egypt/Ethiopia/Kemet, or because of trade relations with the

African and Asiatic peoples who made up the indigenous populations of

    these lands.

  • @ 360gooden --...The KKK believe

Jesus was white, and therefore a white man's God, despite the

impossibility of this being fact. History and ancient demographics

    alone make this an impossibility

  • @ 360gooden --...As to the KU Klux Klan burning crosses...the cross has been an ancient Eurocentric form of torture and execution. The KKK use it as a threat

of such torture/execution of African and African-descended peoples.

Some would say they burn it to highlight the threat.

  • @ 360gooden --...So although the cross is a horrible man-made form of torture and

execution, it symbolizes the hope that Mankind now has in having a new

covenant with God, which allows Jesus' death on the cross to atone for

our sin, allowing us to not be separated from God, but have direct

intimate relationship with Him, through faith in Jesus.

  • @ 360gooden --...This is why the Bible

instructs that we pray in the "name of Jesus", as in, ending prayers

saying, "In Jesus' name, Amen". The cross is our continual reminder to

ourselves and God of the new covenant He made with us to allow us

direct relationship with Him and forgiveness of our sin.

  • @ 360gooden --...If

we choose to live in obedience to God through Christ, we are

guaranteed not to have to pay the ultimate price for sin that is

within us and within the world. Because Jesus died on the cross we are

no longer separate from God. We can go to Him boldly and present Jesus

on the Cross as the atonement for our sins.

  • @ 360gooden --...The

cross represents the sacrifice of an innocent, blameless Jesus, who

embodies all the sins of the world. Jesus, by embodying all the sin of

the world was accepting the rightful penalty of death for those sins/

disobedience to God. The cross is a symbol and reminder to those who

choose faith through Christ, that our sins have been forgiven us.

  • @ 360gooden --...God desired to return people to Himself in an intimate and direct

relationship (no need for priests, animal sacrifices etc.). The cross

became a symbol of the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus, by God, for the

atonement of the sins of the world. Hence many references to Jesus as

being the "Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world".

  • @ 360gooden --...This meant

that people no longer had direct relationship with God and had to DO

righteous acts and perform rituals to appeal to God to have grace over

their life and spare them having to be sent to hell for the sin that

    is within all man.

  • @ 360gooden --...The penalty of all sin and evil is

separation from God and death. Hence Adam and Eve, after they sinned

by disobeying God, were cast out of Eden (separation from God) and a

time limit was placed on their life (eventual death -- I believe the

Bible states that man shall live no more than 120 years).

  • @ 360gooden --...If you reference back to Genesis, you will note that because of the

disobedience of Adam, by following Eve's instruction to eat of the

fruit of the the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, instead of

obeying the instruction of God not to do so, sin and evil was

    introduced into the world.

  • @ 360gooden --...the person making the offering repents of the sin, and wants it cut away from themselves, towards obedience to God - even if that means

    giving up a part of oneself/one's needs/desires.

  • @ 360gooden --Jesus was sent by God to be sacrificed for the sins

of the world, just as an innocent animal was sacrificed to atone for

the sins of an individual or community (you can find many examples of

this practice in Old Testament times). The animal was seen to embody

the sin of the individual/community and killing it/ sacrificing the

use of it as food/provision was a symbolic way of saying to God that

  • @ 360gooden -- the cross was indeed a Roman colonialistic form of

execution for criminals, traitors, war prisoners etc. Jesus was

executed on the cross, despite His innocence, as a man who was a

threat to the Roman Empire's rule over Biblical lands in Africa and

    the Middle East.

  • @360gooden I sent you a reply on message as I'm having technical difficulty posting my long comment. check your inbox

  • Prince does the ONLY cool sounding Christian rock song ever!

  • no need to believe in any god to enjoy this music

  • @annsaysno Whatever you say. To me it can't get no clearer than that. Jesus pray to God all the time, he sure wasn't praying to himself.

  • please log on to equip.org search jahova witnesses

  • ‎...whatever you wanna call it...U BEST FIND IT....

  • This song is WAY more powerful when sung from an atheistic point of view. It makes it so depressingly cynical. I imagine being in the Middle Ages, looking around at all the starving, suffering, dying christians and pitying them in their panic and lack of understanding. And knowing better.

  • @LaddersIntoLeitrim has brought pain, suffering into the world not god..christ is the perfect sacrifice for our arragonce and pride check out equip.org

  • Soon all of OUR problems.....will be taken by the Cross! can the church say AMEN!

  • I love this song sooooo much, I think it's one of his greatest piece of work!!!

  • Choooonnnnn!

  • Yea, AWESOME!

  • This song is awesome....

Ignorant foul mouthed scum bag. Ever heard of freedom of conscience?

  • @OneGonk regardless of your pointless religious drivel, it's still Prince's best song

  • He changed the lyrics because Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe Jesus was crucified on a cross. They believe it was a pole. In fact, JWs generally detest crosses as pagan and never wear them.

  • @radianceguitarista Actually it's a stake, not a pole. Just clearing that up for you.

  • @trn17 princeton scholars state people labeling themselves jahova witnesses made a horrible translation of gods word stick with the king james, niv, or eugene petersons message everyone read john 1:1 and 14 the word was god and was with god the word became flesh jesus is god the son log on to equip.org

  • @soulkiss1001 It all says the same thing, and you would really know that, if you were to see it for yourself and not go by what others say. Also there are lots of people encourage to read from King James bible or whatever bible they have, it all says the same.

  • Comment removed

  • @soulkiss1001 Now I don't know why you said a scripture, but if you are implying that Jesus and God are the same, then you should reread. The key thing you said was "with God" you didn't say "is God" so, that make Jesus not God. Now if you are saying that Jesus is God's son then, yeah I agree. While you're quoting bible scriptures about it, read John 14:28.

  • @radianceguitarista - He wrote before he became a Jehovah's Witness... Sorry 4 google translate.. :))

  • just heard this for the first time and I like it
