Pirating isn't the massive deal that everyone's making it out to be. Generally, the people who buy copied games do it because they wouldn't be prepared to pay the £40-£50 asking price, so they wouldn't otherwise buy the game. If they weren't going to buy the game, then the developers and suppliers aren't technically losing any money. Don't get me wrong, It is wrong, but the way everyone goes on about it you'd think they were losing tens of millions of pounds of sales because of it. They're not.
@leerobbo92 It's not the same for everyone, though. I know a lot of people that have downloaded Portal 2 illegally, even though they'd be willing to pay nearly twice as much as the actual price because it's a brilliant game. I know someone that desperately tried to download Amnesia illegally, even though it was on sale for about a fiver on Steam. It wasn't that he didn't have any money or didn't really care about it, he just didn't want to spend his money on something he could get for free.

Sometimes products are charged extra and illegal acquisition acts as a force to bring a product down to that equilibrium price. (ie. it would be bs to buy a cherry for $5 each since it costs very little to harvest them so ppl will steal them if they must have them). ---continued..

I've never pirated a game in my life, but I can't even imagine people would consider pirating stuff like this and Penumbra. Frictional Games is one of the very few companies nowadays that truly cares about making something unique and full of quality.
And the $20 price tag? Seriously, you can't afford that? I just bought this and the Penumbra bundle for $32 total last week. 4 games that have given me a far more enjoyable experience for my money over say, the last 4 CoD games combined.

Is anyone else having a problem with ropes disappearing near the end of the game? I haven't bought this myself yet, this is a copy I got from a friend (obviously pirated because of the extra steps involved with installing it), I'm waiting on a paycheck to actually purchase the copy. But, I just wanted to know if this was a common bug or if its just the game not working properly? (Trying not to say any spoilers)

Ya know a cool thing that I've recognized that they've done with this game is the screen moving up and down with movement when walking. I like how this game was very conscious on trying to get you as scared as possible and by doing so much thought was put into making it so.

I pirated this because I thought it was just another console port like dead space. But it's the greatest ever horror game ever made surpassing even doom III so I will get it from steam as soon as I get money.

@Loponstorm People pirate games, that's true. In fact, I even considered pirating Amnesia at one point. Of course, I knew better and bought the game instead. So while people will pirate games for as long as they exist, at least I can be proud to be one of the many who bought the game. :D

@Keggs357 in what way? The files are going through the internet providers except in the case of a computer to computer connection which secures thier privacy for the most part. Many torrent though which gives away thier locations to the service providers who at times monitor the downloading traffic and have been used at times for the capturing of the more larger piraters(movie wise mostly).

For example, I downloaded Dead Space 2 because I wanted to play it, but I didn't care about multiplayer.
So I downloaded it on Bittorent and I wouldn't have bought it even if it failed to download or install.
So the company didn't lose any money due to me downloading it because I never would have payed in the first place!!

I bought this game yo, fuck pirating something like this. Its a masterpiece, one that I have to force myself to play alone in the dark. Best damn $20 I've ever spent and I've only played it for 3 hours so far.

I actually know someone who attempted to pirate this game, argued it was too pricey (£10 -_-) and then moaned that the game was shit because the pirated copy he downloaded kept on crashing. If you're one of these people I'll keep this simple, Go Fuck Yourself You Cheap Skate Thieving Piece Of Shit!

Ya know a cool thing that I've recognized that they've done with this game is the screen moving up and down with movement when walking. I like how this game was very conscious on trying to get you as scared as possible and by doing so much thought was put into making it so.

This is the first game i bought after quite a long time...and i bought it after i beat the pirate version...
Its one of the most terrifying experiences ever. No movie comes close to being as scary as this game is.

I pirated this because I thought it was just another console port like dead space. But it's the greatest ever horror game ever made surpassing even doom III so I will get it from steam as soon as I get money.

@Everyone On pirating : Pirating will ALWAYS happen, Independent or mainstream - subscription paid or free - full game or demo. But the flipside... there will ALWAYS be those that buy it, and filling up comment boxes and forums on your moral, legal, logical, or flawed arguments wont change anything, those that pirate do so knowing full well that the developers dont get paid for it, and those that pirate, normally wouldnt have bought it anyways.

@Loponstorm People pirate games, that's true. In fact, I even considered pirating Amnesia at one point. Of course, I knew better and bought the game instead. So while people will pirate games for as long as they exist, at least I can be proud to be one of the many who bought the game. :D

@Keggs357 in what way? The files are going through the internet providers except in the case of a computer to computer connection which secures thier privacy for the most part. Many torrent though which gives away thier locations to the service providers who at times monitor the downloading traffic and have been used at times for the capturing of the more larger piraters(movie wise mostly).

thats what I did with Penumbra and Amnesia.
and I found out that I could buy them cheap by texting a message, found the information on "Frictionalgames" own account on youtube.
