It was at the 1:25 mark that showed the first moment of the damaged voice of Whitney Houston. Miss Houston stalled for time for over 3 minutes until she could muster enough time to continue with what she had to know was a loss. At 4:25. At 4:29 was when the horror of her damage voice was apparent.For the rest of the song is just terrible.People didn't didnt' pay to hear the audience nor her back up sing. Drugs, crack, alcohol caused all of this waste of a gifted voice.

I used to be a fan of hers before she became miss crack for breakfast, i think she lost her ability to sing soprano way back in the mid 90s, you can see where she lost it by listening to two tracks, a before and after if you will

listen to Exhale (Shoop Shoop), this was before she lost it then listen to Step by Step only a year later, she could no longer sing the high notes and it was pretty much entirely sung by the back up singer's (including Annie Lennox who wrote the song)

She could have let oblivion take her and be remembered as she once was meanwhile getting tons of money from her previous successes, like so many others) And yet, she tries very hard to get back something she lost: contact with her soul. All the distortion is caused by the medical condition of her vocal cords which have became very weak. And the keyed up chorus after that break was very proper and good indeed, with rested and ready-to-close vocal cords. Unfortunately, there is a thing called nodules which only get's worse when singing, their presence does some stuff with blood and cords start to not be able to close properly anymore creating hoarse sound which accelerates development of new nodules.

She still can blow the roof off, but not with tours, they are too much for her voice. But once in a while she can do a genuinely proper performance. :)
