MAD only works when both sides fear destruction. In today's world, the threat comes from nations of religious zealots that want nothing more than to die for their faith.
Peace it may be, but one uneducated Nationalist blind with rage against another nation would set it off. Its only fail proof if both sides are controlled by sensible reasonable people that know what they are getting into and how to respond properly. However, in todays world where those particular individuals are more difficult to find then the M.A.D. theory will not hold forever. One day someone will pull that trigger or push that button and billions will be lost in an instant. Its inevitable.
@davedavedaveannoy1 I may sound idiotic and crazy . But i have the feeling we need something like a nuclear World War 3 . People need to come to senses . Get out of this artificial safe haven. Learn what its about being human . If there wont be a WW3 people will become more stupid and stupid . Get fatter and fatter .They need to see how fast their lifes can be destroyed, It would shake their world and wake everybody up .Humanity always comes stronger out of such big disasters I would welcome it
