The neurologist said there was no way to tell how or why he has it, but that kids usually grow out of it by adolescence. He's 2 now and still does it, we've seen no improvement. Poor kid, the only time it has really affected him is when he tried to use a regular cup to drink out of, he concentrates really hard so as not to spill, and as soon as the water gets near his lips, he usually seizes and gets water everywhere. I don't know if it has a connection to him concentrating but it happens a lot.
You know, I've read about the link between the MMR shot and seizures, although the cases I found seem to be of one time grand mals. Problem is that I don't know exactly when they started. He WAS very young, but at first we thought it was just a 'thing' he did when he got startled. It didn't even concern us for a few months. Then we started noticing it more and more over the next months until we finally got it on video and took him to a neurologist.
He was diagnosed with Generalized Myoclonic Epilepsy. We haven't put him on medication yet, because according to my research, it seems that the possible side effects are worse than the effects of his seizures. We're exploring alternative/holisitc remedies right now.
What did you find out? My 17 month old is having another EEG in 2 weeks and looks very similar to this boy. She has myoclonic since birth but the staring is now worse.
hii to be honest it looks like your baby might have petit mal, petit mal is also known as an absence seizure which the key symptoms are that it lasts about 15sec or less, head twitting side to side and the look of day dreaming. most petit mals start in babies and other times starts at 6-12 years of age. sometimes children grow out of it after a certain time and others might have it as a long term medical condition try to get and EEG and see what your doctor says. Good Luck! :)
