Boring old R1? It's new for '09, and actually has some rather interesting technology that makes the newness so important... so simple is out too. The R1 is gorgeous, easy to put the power down, simply innovative, and easy to live with everyday. The 09 puts my 05 to shame.
HP is not a real world help,,useable power is what matters,the kawa is too brutal the honda is good tha suki too heavy the duke too gorgeous so the borin old r1 works well,simple
they should test it with a pillion on roads wif other vehicles on it if they want to have a real road test.. in a city or roads with bumps, potholes, uneven tar.. u know.. normal roads...

Where in the MCN test on the track the R1 blitzed in the US it came second last ahead of the Ducati in terms of lap times. Still it is obviously a great bike and something a bit different from the others. (I am also a bit biased as I own an 05 R1).
Really? I just got July's issue of Motorcyclist and they rated the R1 first in every way, ran the best lap times and just the funnest to ride all around... humm Oh ya did't Cycle World rate the R1 and the best all around bike too and like 2nd fastest on the track... I absolutly adore the new R1, the way the power comes on and the handleing is just.... mmm ya just gives you that feeling inside... ya you know what I'm talking about :)

the HP number doesn't really matters that much , what matters is " how the bike apply-delivers the power " and that is what the 09 R1 is so good at, it delivers power like no other bike i have ever ridden before.
as for the magazines US mags bash the new R1 all over , in the other hand Euro magazines are amazed w/ that same bike.
Myself i read all my bike magazines (4) and I take it as a point of view instead of " the only truth ".

lol it grew on me, at least they all are finally looking different, thats a start, now if the suzuki would change its look sometime in the next 20 years.
this is true, the zx10 and new r1 definatly have that "different" about them, but i would hardly be able to tell the gixxer apart from the 10 previous models. their designers are getting to be as lazy as those at porsche lol
The guys need some new ideas, they are a kind of monotone. we bikers want DATA and BIKE vs. BIKE-Videos. I dont learn more about bikes, just by seeing them riding. I know how they look...
i got to say i loved the gsxr in the previous years but look at the pipes on it!! how horrible are they! my bro took the r1 out for a test drive today he's fallen in love with it and he's had the gsxr 1000 and the millie 1000 i just cant wait to get my gsxr 600.. i agree with mcn the yammy is a gawjush bike.....sorry about my storys haha.....

agrred on the suzuki. they really screwed up in 09 with those horrible tail pipes! even the 600 and 750 have a big oversized ugly pipe! they sould have kept the smaller one right behind the foot peg like last year. But it seems like all the new bikes are getting these big ugly over sized exhaust...... i guess they do it so we will have to go out and spend the money to buy after market slip ons that arent so bulky!
the point of those exhausts are that they carry the catalytic converters inside the end pipes. Sooner or later bikes always have race pipes put on them, by doing this you only have to get new end pipes to get rid of the heavy catalytic converters instead of an entire system, its a brilliant idea what suzuki have done
like to see them keep up with me on my 748 ducati over the mountains ... not a hope ... zx10 a big pig , just sold one , nice on motorway but no go over the twistys ! same as most 1000cc bikes ok on a straight ! hahahha and they all look ugly compaired to a 748 ..very ugly !

+1 grading a racebike on road comfort is pretty pointless ehh. didnt really understand this test, i think i would rather have a drop dead sexy bike that was a little less comfortable.
My best friend owns a motorcycle shop that sells all four Jap companies. I have rode every 600cc and 1000cc since 2001. It rides nice but it is still uglier then crap to me. Many people like it but it still has a horrible design to me.
I guess everyone has different opinion. 2009 R1 is very very nice - however, I don't own one. I prefer Triumph 675 over R1 reason being my size (Im 5,8" with 155 lb) - R1 is way too much for my taste. Honda FB, although it is very very nice too, is too crouched forward and my back hurts after 20 min, and ZX-10 is too twitch for me. On GSX, I can feel an ant getting sqaushed to death with my bump. Well, having said that, R1 is very good bike - for some as well.
the ducati was last, not third, thank you. better fork set up.. blahblahblah they looked at the overall bike in MCN... not just the handling, it wasn't as good as the Yamaha, the Honda, the Kawasaki and it tied with the GSXR.. ok? so.."FU!" aswell.

Im still a Honda guy. The CBR series still kick ass on the road and look way better in my opinion then the R1. That thing just looks ugly to me.

Yeah I really do. I have weird taste in bikes even my friends say I do. I also ride a bit differently but it works best for me.
Also the 675 is a GREAT bike. My fav out of the 600cc class. Triumph did amazing on the bike and its a very fun bike on the road.

Honda and Suzuki look only half-way decent but those cheap graphics ruin the rest. Kawasaki looks just about passable. Yamaha...
Is it like an agreement?: "leave the cute designs to the Italians, we'll sell crap-looking things on their mechanical righteousness..."
