Wow guys, I didn't think this video would evoke such a response! Thanks for the views.
First, yes the boat is EXTREMELY too small for me. I weigh 109kg and this boat was made for a lightweight female sculler. This summer I spent learning how to scull. The Indiana University women's crew coach was nice enough to let me use this boat. So, yes it was way too small, but it's all that was available. This was also after filmed a month after my first time on the water. I still have much to learn!
@jake0the0muss Lean back shouldn't be more than 15 degrees. The power of the stroke pretty much ends there, any more and you loose muscle efficiency:power ratio.
I do agree about the boat, the next weight class up might help him to tap down more to stop dragging those blades across the water, he should also start to square the blade as it passes over his flat knees. A bit more body swing backwards and forwards will help lengthen his stroke out and become more efficient, but however he is clearly in the early stages of becoming a sculler, and in my eyes if your dry after one of your first sessions it went well regardless. :)

He is about 30kg too heavy for that boat - your an idiot putting him out in it. You need to rethink your coaching imo. He will learn nothing in that.
