So you're saying to bend your knees and keep them bent throughout. But what about a hip dominant kettlebell swing, when you swing it forward (up) your knees lock out. And you keep your glutes "on" or squeezed there, so what's the difference there? The load?
i disagree with what you say about the glutes...in my applied anatomy class we are taught that the gluteus maximus is engaged when the legs are straightened out...not when they are bent...you can even feel this for yourself if you jsut stand up....if you bend your legs you will feel your gluteus maximus relax...its when your legs straighten out that they contract...
its called stiff because you are not bending you knees and doing a squat like motions as is done with a regular deadlift... stiff legged doesnt mean straight legged..
@Alive4Metal thankyou, this guy sucks balls, great hamstring exercise though, I love it, i keep my legs slightly bent so I can touch the ground with the bar. Should I be stopping before the ground on stiff legged?
Think you have miss-interpreted the originial workout. "Stiff legged" doesnt mean straight legged. Also straightening at the top of the movement will allow full range of and the largest contraction of the glute.
With respect to paul chek, that vid is half BS. my glute tension is just fine with knees locked. there is almost no consensus between top coaches concerning romanian dl as far as mechanics.
also it is important not to look down. Keep that chin up throughout the execution of a "stiff legged deadlift" which will help in keeping the body properly aligned.
Hummm, not sure if I agree with the knee bend at the top of the lift. My glutes seem the same tension with knees bent or straight, but I get a better hip drive with knees locked.
It seems the top kettlebell guys lock out at the top of swings, etc and the olympic lifters seem to lockout knees at the top also. Are they doing this stuff incorrectly. I respect the CHEK philosophy and I know you know your stuff so it has me wondering.
I wouldnt take everything chek teaches as gospel ,he sure has some cockeyed ideas but hes pretty smart when he sticks to exercise .Regarding this vid youre right about lockout at the top but the knees are flexed otherwise on this exercise like he shows.

@sstslayer stopped whenever you feel a nice stretch on your hamstrings, and remember to drive those hips forward on the way up to engage those glutes
