Growing up in Hessville was wonderful in the 60's. I have very fond memories of Caldwell School and Morton Middle School, from which I graduated in 1970. Then went on to graduate from Morton HS in ' 74. I agree with Officer Squarenuts. Hessville and Robertsdale are my favorite parts of Hammond. The Chicagoland areas which are near the lake are a collection of neighborhoods, some good, some bad....But mostly good!!!! IMHO

Overall i am comfortable where i live i feel safer than i do standing in chicago at 3am. if you can work in chicago loop and live in south hammond its a good deal. So far it worked for me I just hope this area stays this nice for another 3 decades.

Where can you live and not ever argue with a neighbor? I had some minor arguments with neighbors in Chicago. Thank GOD the people in Hammond so far are much nicer overall and just plain human. One thing I can overall say is you can't put a price tag on peace and quiet and Hammond give you the best of both worlds, If i want to party take a 38 min drive into the Chicago Loop area, when i want peace i just go home here in Hammond So i think you get the best of both worlds here.

I wanted to show people out there that Hammond is not what they make it look out to be(bad). the documentary simply shows an update to date nice area of Hammond which is not a scum place and is a actual a great place to purchase a nice home that you'd pay twice as much or more in nearby Chicago.

This is north Munster. Go to Downtown Hammond, it sucks. In fact, the entire north half of Lake County is a sewer of human scum. I left there 4 years ago and will never, ever step foot in that shithole again. Good riddance.
This is not North Munster, This is the Southwest portion of Hammond right before you enter Munster. The north of side of Hammond is a poor side of town Unfortunately they built a Casino which attracts a lot of scum.
I realize this area is technically in Hammond, but it has the characteristics of North Munster. Although I currently live in Seattle I graduated from Purdue Cal and was a member of the now defunct Woodmar Country Club for many years. I am quite familiar with 173rd Street, those were my stomping grounds many years ago.

When I go to Muster there are stores after stores but in Hammond there's only tobacco, fireworks and Walgreen's the nice parts of Hammond exits because people who make $ still care and have bought homes there. I hope more mid to high level income people move to Hammond and buy homes that's when you will see the difference it's all about where the jobs are. People who can afford a nice neighborhood usually make sure it stays that way.
ooho 174th! My bff used to live there. Hammond does have some nice neighborhoods but alot of it turning into crap. And so are the people. Some of it isnt all suburbian perfection. But its just not getting any betterr.
Well as far as it's not getting any better it think it boils down to $ the more you make the better you can afford to live. I moved away from Chicago because the houses + taxes are outrages! All Hammond needs is more jobs/business to make the economy grow stronger and better Government to start and initiate growth in Hammond Indiana.
