Complete horse shit.. Wales has and will continue to provide, even in it's poorest seasons, the best rugby players of all time. The best is yet to come.. all the young boys playing mini rugby now.. will be the Welsh greats of tomorrow. Memeber I told you!!
@wellscot i'd be more hopeful if more Welsh kids were playing sport instead of being obese couch potatoes. Welsh packs are rarely competitive, even if Wales has still managed some exciting back play in recent years.
@mizofan Speaking as a Welsh man, living outside Wales, and knowing someone with a lad doing quite well in the Welsh youth setup, I'm far more optimistic. The regional setup & academies are working - look at the RWC 2011 team, half of them under 23 and the pack is now in the top 3 in the world (7 of 'em almost did for a full French 8!). Gethin Jenkins, Adam Jones, A W, Jones, S Warburton - all World class with a good few years ahead, we haven't got a bad set of backs either ;-)
@mizofan Yeah, things are looking up now with the world cup! The pack played strongly, have toughened up, so the team was much more complete- Adam Jones and Warburton are important, we need another top prop and openside flanker as replacements, and Rees back as hooker. The team seemed stuck for a couple of years but they deserved to make the final really. Roberts and Phillips back to top form, real promise now at 10 and North on the wing, so maybe the improvement can be taken a step further...
Welsh rugby faded from 1980 because of the arrogance and incompetence of both the WRU and the clubs. Pure and simple. `Cycles` are a pathetic excuse. Same with the English RFU before the 1990s and after 2003. Both unions are undemocratic self serving breeding houses for incompetence. Its how about a bunch of old men can hiold a national sport to ransom.
I love listening all the anthems ( Wales, Ireland, Scotland and England ). That remembers the fantastic five nations tournanment in the 1970's........and the great players as well ->Gareth Edwards, JPR Williams, Phil Bennett, Mike Gibson, Fergus Slattery, Jim Renwick, Andy Irvine, David Duckham, Bill Beaumont etc...etc....
football is the national sport <3

The incompetence of the WRU in the 1980's was mindblowing. They drove Jonathan Davies 'up north.' Wales are always a team to be feared.
