WOW that's a nice bit of vintage NASA Skylab footage from the early 1970's. I like the space suits of that time with red locking thingy around the fish bowl helmets sure don't make them like that anymore.
I think that the people who say the moon landings didn't happens are used to seeing fake CGI animation that they wouldn't know real if it bit them in the ass. I also think they know we went to the moon, but just want to try and piss people off by saying it never happened. They also have no faith in anything. I don't know what the government supposedly did to make them not trust it enough to believe the moon landings happened.America's better than you non believers think or know, so shove it.
I think Skylab was a hastily put together mission using rockets left over from the cancelled Apollo series. The really sad thing is that they scrapped the Saturn Vs.
We could have had an Internationl Space Station back in the seventies and a manned mission to Mars in the eighties.
The cold war that got us to the moon also stopped us from going any further.
indeed it was. The Saturn was so powerful it could have put up the International space station in just 3 or 4 missions over a 6 month period at a fraction of the cost of using the ilconceived space shuttle, and it could have done it 20 years earlier had the US and USSR got together back then.
Right now only the USSR are capable of putting a humans into orbit.
The goal was too cool to feign accomplishment. The political gains were too valuable. And realistically, the political gains weren't worth dookey without actual accomplishment. The focus of the nitwits should be on why we want to drive ATV's on the moon and basically erect a giant phallus statue in honor of our greatness. The focus of the nitwit conspiracy theorist should be on humanity's overweening pride. The nitwit should become a social critic or philosopher. But alas, they is dumbos.
This film is legend. Skylab was a technological milestone in the history of the human race. If I could re-live any moment in history, I'd want to be one of the privileged few astronauts who got to live and work on this monolithic marvel.
SkyLab's module was originally planned for an orbit of Venus and return to Earth but it was scrubbed by a lack of funding. They used it as a space station of course.
I don't think that's quite right. There was a very preliminary study of a manned flyby of Venus with modified Apollo hardware, but it was one of many such studies for a follow-on to the lunar missions. It was never as seriously considered as an earth orbital space station.
There were actually "triple planet flybys" and they were considered pretty seriously by a group within NASA known as JAG -- Planetary Joint Action Group.
The proposal I saw would have used the spent S-IVB basically as an empty hangar, somewhat similar to the Skylab wet workshop concept. It'd probably be used as a recreational handball court. There would also be a separate, custom module for interplanetary manned flight.
It's just as well that this was never done. Robots are perfect for planetary flybys. Humans don't really shine until they land on a planet and start walking around and exploring it.
I would have loved to have gone up to the skylab or Mir. Too bad though. What time will the International Space Station suffer the same fate as it's previous counterparts? Will it ever?
PS, i dont think the technology of the 60's and 70's both copmputer and audio/visual, would allow it to be possible to fake the moon landings. But the technology of the time was just enough to take us there for real, 400,000 people cant all tell the same lie folks!
@ferdmert your last sentance destroyed all your logic that came befor. you do know the director of NASA resigned two days befor apollo 11 launched. wake up and smell the peaches. did you think he was just having a bad day?
You sound like something else but I am not complaining. So educate us all please, and tell us which director of what resigned from NASA two days before Apollo11 took off?
I was not the flight director or cheif administrator so tell us who it was.
@ferdmert Yeah, and also just watch the two documentaries "in the shadow of the moon" and "when we left earth" and you'll see some amazing footage that I doubt they could have faked in the 60s.
why's it so hard for people born after 1990 to believe the US landed on the moon? people born after 1990 dont have much faith in anything, its too bad. I guess you had to be a "shuttle baby" or better to believe it and relish in our success in space exploration.
Yeah, people who have little physical experience with the real world and get their ideas of physics and engineering from playing Nintendo and Xbox rather than with Mechano have a hard time understanding any of the achievements of the past.
Shoot a bow and arrow at a bulls eye and hit it? Obviously impossible without computers.
@ferdmert I was born after 1990 and I hate when people say the landings were fake! I know you don't mean everyone but I wanted to say I know a lot of people who believe they were real. Most people who think it was fake don't trust the government and don't listen to any of our arguments that the landings were real.
@johngotechs most people are fucking retarded born after 1990 lol. I have to admit, most of my generation (1990) can barely do basic algebra. I couldn't see them grasping the concept of space travel lol, they can only tell you who the next top model is or who is the most popular rapper alive LOL. Sad but true.
@thedanphillips How true.. But believe or not all generations have dumb-asses. It's just as the population of all people gets larger.. stupid people become easier to spot. Light travels faster than sound. That's why some people appear to be bright until you hear them speak.

There is no challenge, there's no progress in high level science.as it used to be. Thats why now, young people don't believe we went to the moon.

Discovery, it's a clip. What's with the COMMERCIALS? Really poor taste, bad decision.
I will not watch any more of these that feature commercials. You should offer samples, then put commercials on FULL episodes.
Think about it next tme.
