I'm pretty sure that the idea for a Myst movie has been floatin' around the creators' heads since Myst had so many hits, but I've never actually seen a trailer for that movie. I suppose if you keep workin on it, it'll make a good YouTube movie, and from there, who knows. Am I right?
Interesting you were able to pull it off. I was part of a Myst-inspired 3D film a while ago, and we were told to shelve it by Cyan since the rights for the film had been sold.
Nice concept.. I always thought of trying to find areas irl to reproduce Myst like areas, but for some reason a "blue screen" type effect never occurred to me. =) Exciting! Can't wait to see where this will go ^^
Your far too bright against the background, it's raining and your hair is dry, the book you have is very different from the one you start with, and there would be no Myst linking book inside of Myst. The book you find (the grey one) is actually the big descriptive book. It stays in the dark place, while you go into it. Consistency is the majorly important thing. Also, the devil is in the details. Get both right. Consistency and details are the two things you can never afford to screw up.
This was part of an amature project created for my final major BTEC Media Studies. The promblems you've listed were all in my evaluation, save for canoncy issues.
The final product (For which there is a link above) is not designed to be canon, and the reason I look out of place is on filming day the actor I had in mind came in wearing blue, which on a blue screen is not recomended. Rain is also hard to reproduce, seeing as my college refused to pay out for a proper effects program. I worked hard on this and my final product, and got a merit for my troubles.
Believe me, if I was some guy like George Lucas, I'd of tried to make everything look alot better, barring canon issues. But I'm just a guy with a dated Adobe premiere and windows movie maker. I'm pleased with what I accomplished, and I'm sorry if all my errors take away your enjoyment of my film.
Hm.. Nope. I still liked it, I'm just trying to tell you that it's really easy to fix those problems. Usually those are the things that make the difference. For example, if you had dampened your hair or used some translucent grey plastic over the lens, you'd have looked like you were part of the scene.
The rain thing you don't have to reproduce because if you look like your already a bit damp around the edges then it looks like your in the scene. But yeah, consistency is an important thing, so I hope that helps :)
Hey! Are you the same Artoveli on Deviantart? Cos if you are, I really love your work! Especially your Myst IV comic. Oh, and I finished the Mini-film too, it's on my profile. If you watch it, I hope you enjoy it.
Yes I am! Do you have an account on DeviantArt? Have I seen you there? I'll be posting more Myst art soon, actually (and possibly something that will appear here on YouTube!)
Not true. During the first game, Catherine is imprisioned in Riven, which is part of the plot for the second game. there is a letter to Catherine, granted, but Atrus wrote that for her because he didn't know Catherine had been tricked by Sirrus and Achenar to go to Riven. I've almost finished the film, but your input is appriciated
Dude, that's COMPLETELY false. You meet Catherine in the second game, Riven. And Riven takes off right where Myst ended. Also, if the Stranger was actually Catherine don't u think Sirrus and Achenar, her own sons or Atrus, her husband would recognize her?
Anyone , that does anything to contiunue the MYST ethos is good. It is a concept that inspires many, and I for one would like to see it made into a feature length movie.
Dude your using the MYST V Myst island, actually use the right MYST (RealMyst and Myst) if your going to play the stranger in the first game and turn it into a movie. No offense, just an error I noticed.
Have you watched Make a home? Because that's where I got my unspiration from. Also, I'm not sticking to Myst Canon for this mini-film, not that I didn't try too. It was originally going to be Yeesha instead of the Stranger, but the girl I found to play her couldn't come to filming. As such, I had to make do with what I had to hand, and had to make it the Stranger in order to finish it on time. It's more of a mini-film then anything else.

I will give you two peices of advice.
Consistency, and consistency. While those might look like the same thing, the fact is, it's worth saying twice.

pretty good but the stranger in the first Myst game is Catherine,Atrus's wife
Oh and i think u need a new actor...or what you can try to do is the backround to be real
basically real trees and so on....
