  • thats really pathetic, i can't believe microsoft hates linux so much that they'd ban the name on a GAMING console. seriously ms, grow up. they're like the nazis in the computer world - they think everyone should be them, they force others to join them, they ruin those who disagree, and they're a huge but overall weak power

  • @schmidtbag its called business. kill or be killed.

  • @billsurlatete no, its called anticompetition, which is actually illegal

  • @schmidtbag bundling a browser with win98 was anti-competitive. im talking about the basic principles of business. you act in a way which hinders your competition the most without provoking the laws of the land. although linux is not commercial entity traditionally, the growth of various disto's does pose a very real threat to microsoft in the enterprise market, especially with servers and reduced support costs. but yes banning the name is silly.

  • @billsurlatete that comment i can agree with, but, keep in mind censorship is anticompetitive. intel got in lots of trouble for paying websites not to sell amd products, and that was classified as anticompetition. now when you look at this situation in the sense that rnawky (top rated comment) said, this isn't anticompetitive, or even stupid at all. however, considering the massive amount of trademarks in the world i can't possibly see how MS would ban all of them

  • @schmidtbag i really dont understand why they would ban the name, all it would really do is annoy people who want to use it. i did here ballmer once refer to linux as cancer....

  • HAH!!! xD

  • You can now use "Linux" as your motto! I remember when you couldn't though. Those were ridiculous times...

  • Definetly dude, I see exactly what you're saying.

  • What? .... What???? Let's get the facts straight here.

Linux is not susceptible to malware/viruses/spyware.

Wine, a program used on Linux machines to run Windows programs, does not cost a thing.

  • WINE is free, Cedega (based on WINE) isn't

  • @skozombie And it sucks :D

  • i use windows mostly but i say they cant admin linux is better :)

  • That is too funny. Microsoft are a bunch of monopolistic bastards.

    Linux forever!!!

  • IBM DOS-(and its bill g swindled variant)

    vs UNIX-(and its subordinates)

    the battle rages on

    who will win

    the fraudulent or the creator

the consumer chose the cheapest not the best and now look where we are

most people are like pigs gladly consuming from the troth the sh-t there given there are few who will go from there paddock sit at a table and have a decent meal

  • xD You could easily type it backwards like

    xunil :)

tsuj ekil mi gnipyt shit elohw ecnetnes sdrawkcab. :)

  • @kawaiifreak860:

You forgot to make "shit" backwards.

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Microsoft what a losserss!!!LINUX in my blood!!!!!

  • Oh dear...

  • LOL

  • thats hillarious.

  • ahaha losers xD linux 4ever!

  • That's funny. Linux is awesome, so they don't allow it.

  • Because they cant handle that Linux and Mac osx rule there ass.

    Simple as that

  • xbox hate whole company WHY

  • I tried to put that my location was virginia, and it wouldn't let me. I'm assuming b/c it has 'virgin' in it.lol

  • or you miss spelled and put Virgina x]

  • I'm gonna play devil's advocate in this case and speculate that maybe Microsoft considers user names with Linux or Unix in them as advertising and/or spam. Read the Xbox Live TOS agreement to see if they ban advertising and/or spam in user names.

  • try mac

  • Linux has Copyright or?

  • no, it has copyleft

  • it let me put "imac+ilife=mylife") so i dont no why they wouldnt allow linux ???

  • No comment. Microsoft is totally disgusting... a shame in the software industry no matter how popular they are. And their "examples" are also followed by other software teams, who also do such things in a rage for popularity and money. I wonder what will become of our software and devices with people like -that- in the near future.

Anyway Linux rocks. I really need to learn it it sometime soon and switch to it from this Windows thing. If only all Windows applications worked on Linux...

  • They do. Ever heard of wine?

  • Wow... Microsoft is too STRICT!!!!!

  • What a stupid video, like the fake spam about "Linux" word on Windows Live Mail, that is fake.

  • lol we have the same gamertag picture :P

  • Microsoft wont have people on xbox live that like other OS companys they will only have people that like Windows and i tried to enter mac then i got banned so i entered windows 1.0 and it worked i tried also linux and other unknow OS company but i can't remember they so people out there please enter only windows if yer want to enter a company name

  • LOLZ!

  • In a world without walls and fences, we need no Windows and Gates! -Linus Torvalds

    There will be changes!

Linux and other open source software will defeat Microsoft!

This will happen in a few years now, we all know it!

  • LOL! I've never heard that quote before!

You've just brightened up my day :)

  • I am switching to linux right now!... i am on my mom's computer

  • @zippohenrik91 No it won't. You Linux tards won't stay away from your stupid command lines. The average person hates Linux because it's not user friendly. AND NO, typing in commands into the terminal, having to compile programs or being tortured from having too many choices of crappy free software is not user friendly.

  • @Plissken07

    >He thinks Linux is not user friendly, entirely dependent on the Terminal.

    >Also thinks that Free Software is all shit.

GUYS GUYS I THINK WE MIGHT HAVE FOUND A TIME TRAVELER FROM 1995!!!!

  • @blinxwang

Oh, please. Even with KDE, Gnome, it still sucks. Yast, RPM, all shit.

No. Concept of free software is good. 500 clones of the same program with lots of bugs or lacking features, very bad.

  • @Plissken07 i felt the same until recently. but ubuntu10.10 has a come a long way and is definatley a consumer option. i got a new laptop with win7 on it for christmas.it was pretty sluggish and couldn't even get a good frame rate on quake live. i installe3d the new ubuntu its much faster sleeker, nicer looking. nice wee 3d effects.never crashes runs quakelive amazing. for general internet music etc its a good platform.

  • @blinxwang to be fair, i have very basic needs, but i do from time to time have to edit things in the command line that are graphically displayed on mac or windows. and i did want to download a new graphjics driver which involved compiling it, it really isn't something a novice could do.

  • @zippohenrik91 Not a good idea. I know that the file permissions and the unix heritage makes it much much safer but if linux turns 50/60% of the market, viruses will be written for it, no matter how secure it is.

  • lol Microsoft hates every computer company

  • they banned my name{jesus).

  • Lol Microsoft fear linux/unix/open source because they know if the majority switches they are FUCKED!

  • aw why does microsoft hate linux so much?

  • Goes to show you that M$ still shuns at things like "open source".

  • Ya, its not really bullshit. You control the hardware from the kernel. You need the other stuff to make it actually do things.. :D Have a nice day though

  • loool bill gates u fucktard

  • You mean Steve Baulmer

  • i posed a video just like this a month before u xD, why dont i have 5K view :p

  • Digg Effect.

  • My motto is now Ubuntu then.

  • linux is trademarked

  • Lots of things are trademarked.

  • did they ban everything else that is trademarketed? ex. ebay youtube

  • by who?

  • I swear they put these things in just to see how much nerdrage they can get out of people :>

  • Haha, I've noticed this before. It's pretty funny.

  • Ok you can't use Microsoft either, They don't allow Company Names or Trademarks.

  • Linux is neither a company name nor a trademark

  • linux is a free OS.

  • No killthemoles, you are wrong.

Torvalds owns the "Linux" trademark. This is to prevent other people from suing over the Linux name.

  • Surprised?

    No.

  • Lol, wtf
