for those saying he could be nasty and all, just remmember a lot of this had to do with his various illnesses , effectivng his mood and attitude, one reason he never smiled also. I've had the pleasure of actually meeting him many times and we have gone over this point many times in interviews i have done. But as for getting thrown out for helping a lighting tech i wouldn;t know much about why he done that.
Personally i think he's a good straight edge guy and keeps music sounding fresh
Syd Barrett / Rick Wright of The Pink Floyd were the founders, in my view anyway, of the road that many groups would travel down with synth etc... I've always liked Gary Numan / Tubeway Army....top stuff!!
Having seen all the work, rehearsing, recording, designing the light show, transportation, logistics and all the stuff that needs arranging just to do a show and realise how long numan has been doing it,it is something amazing.
it is truly exhausting work as numan is totally hands on everything he does,so i give credit where it is due,I dont like him as a person but that does not mean that you do not give the man credit for being a hard worker that actually earns his money and pays taxes.
@johnleomcl While I do not like Gary as a person I have to admit having personally saw him managing the show in every detail that it takes courage, personal strength and belief in yourself to see things materialise. Its true about ultravox and what you said but ultravox themselves said that when they saw gary on television that they"kicked"themselves because he was the first artist to really "put it all together"as a synth artist.
Gary was a musical genius in his early years, but he was also a nasty bit of work.
He was and could be very spiteful and nasty and to this day he can really be horrible and nasty for absolutely no reason.I was only twenty here at this concert and he had me chucked out because I was helping the lighting engineer.never liked him at all.
@johnleomcl What bollocks! Numan got all his ideas from Ultravox and a few other acts who were doing electronic music well before he stumbled upon a minimoog. He was ultra cool for about two years then it all fell apart as he leaped from one ridiculous sound and image to another. 2011 he is a sad parody of a parody, doing the NIn tribute act and doing it badly with the help of a fcking techno DJ with no descernible talent as a musician. best music fromt he 80s? lol not even close.
@Hammersmith80 Then why the hell are you viewing his music? Why the hell are you watching it, if you hate his music so much? To just complain and moan about how much you hate him? He shaped the electronic '80s.
@Hammersmith80 'no descernible talent as a musician'? Yes Ultravox was a huge influence of Numan. But if he was talentless why would John Foxx rate him and talk so highly of him even after all these years? Anyway I cringe when I watch this footage, its pretty cheesy.
in 30 years, all the Numan concerts ive been to including the farewell gigs at wembley, this man has delivered the goods every time, what a true star gary numan is im going to southampton and london 02 for TPP tour

Hard to pick, best front man of the 80s. Gary or Bono?

Best version live I think I've ever heard. Puts the LO versions to shame.
