I have bought a new trackball from HK for $ 9 and installed it according the video, thanks again, and upgraded software, amazing results. I was gonna dump my BB because of the problems, not anymore!!!

you may buy a blackberry with an optical trackpad ^^ like the bold 9700, or the storm which has only a touchscreen :)

I found the solution...dab NAIL POLISH REMOVER onto PAPER or an old tshirt (dont use cotton....the cotton remnants would just keep it sticking)

Roll your trackball until your paper/cloth dry. Minne has been squeeky clean

Im getting off the BB wagon. I had refused to switch off the good-old track wheel until i dropped my 8700 in a bucket of water. Switched to a bold and in less than a year it started to malfunction; now after a year and half, the trackball is dead on LEFT. Charged up the previously fried 8700...and she seems good to go (until I find myself a worthy phone).

The trackball retainer can be difficult to latch back in.

We have to use needle nose pliers to reinstall the corners of the latch. WARNING to anyone considering or accidentally disassembling the trackball to the final level since the small black rubber wheels have magnets inside.

Trying to get four magnets laid next to each other to remain in place is hard enough but doing so with metal tools is enough you make you scream in frustration.
