Well good for you, however this Archos ACCESSORY is for those in the market whose TV's didnt come with hard drives factory installed and are interested in something other than AppleTV or TiVo.
As for it being a 'big box', it's smaller than the standard DVD player or game console lurking in many entertainment systems.
Unfortunately not - the Archos TV Plus can only record one show at the same time, as it doesn't have a built in TV tuner (you have to connect a TV tuner to the unit).

I'd take the Archos over the Apple TV, if I didn't already own an Archos docking station and wanted possible HD recording capabilities.
