No, vertical can be either a standing or running jump. How your vertical leap differs from a high jump is the vertical is the total height your feet are from the floor standing up straight. In a high jump, it's how high of a bar you can clear from a flipping your body.
I love listening to people talk about guys with 58", 60"+ verticals. NO ONE jumps that high. I've played competitive volleyball my whole life and have been around some amazing leapers. Anyone jumping in the mid 40's has an incredible vertical. A few freaks of nature, like James White, might be able to get in the high 40's. But 58"? That's a completely joke.
