Too much vibration from something nearby like a refigrator motor or AC fan or even a busy highway - The box acts like a sound receiver picking up vibrations - it has to be heavier.

All the mirrors must be on a single heavy plate. The laser can be off the plate.

Try moving the box were you want to see the interferometric pattern further away. Its similar to a projection, the farther away is the wall the bigger it gets. Turning the light off helps also.
