@Brindles09 He was born in Korea but moved to the US when he was two so he probably has an accent when he speaks Korean considering he grew up in the US lol
I think this was the scene from the first season when Claire didn't feel her baby moving, and she did after he did something, and she tried to show him but it made him really uncomfortable. He's really convincing.
Hi guys! I have an audition coming up and had to prepare a video for the casting director and he asked us to prepare a video each.. and he would pick the one that got a lot of views on youtube to get the part! It would help a lot if u could watch my audition and comment it if you have any thing useful to say^^ Here is the link: watch?v=gGn5Cn9jL7M
There's a fascinating documentary on the "Breakfast at Tiffany's" DVD about how Asian characters are almost always portrayed as foreigners in movies and on TV. Even Asian American actors who have no foreign accent at all and have never lived outside of America often fake foreign accents, because those are the only parts they can get.
Translation: JIN: "here let me check for you..." "i'm sure you dont have a penis...." "do you feel this?" "how about this?" "there i guess you dont have a..." LADY: "oh my god i felt it! come here.." JIN: "nonono get away from me! OTHERS! OTHERS!"
I don't know if he speaks a good korean or not, but I'm sure that some guys in Russeau's team (Jin's friends ^^) didn't really speak french, but certainly Haiti's creole.
He grew up here, it's still good that he speaks Korean at all. Cuz I know a lot of people that came to the United States and forgets their own language well their parents let them forget their language :) my cousin for example came here when she was 5 and now she can't even pronounce her own name LOL it's ANU Mongolian name and she pronounces it like anus kinda haha it's just sad I would never do that mistake to my children
OK He may have thick Busan accent. But I swear to god, he does not sound like anything native. My mom, who's Korean, watches Lost with Korean subtitles. You know, most of the time Jin says something, there's no English subtitles? (cuz they are either obvious or unimportant...) My mom COULD NOT understand him without KOREAN subtitles. Neither could I. well he kinda gets better as the series proceeds.
Many Koreans say that his Korean is pretty bad, but they don't know the fact that he was born in Busan, South Korea, and his parents whom he learned Korean, were also from Busan. He speaks with conservative Busan accent, which is very different from modern Seoul accent. He does make occasional pronunciation mistakes, but his accent is almost perfect Busan accent. I'm also from Busan (even though I've been living in the United States since 16), and he sounds very good, even in native standards.
@stevecolens I do know, and that's why I mentioned his parents. Because his parents (and his relatives) were the ones Daniel learned Korean from, he picked up their accent - Busan accent.
@afnaidel he doesn't speak in a conservative busan accent. he speaks with an american english accent. that's why his korean is so bad. but he got a little better over time. nowhere near as good as sun, who is a real korean actress. what pisses me off is that they let these guys live till the penultimate episode and then killed them off. i mean wtf? everyone was rooting for them to be reunited with their daughter!
@afnaidel Actually, he moved to America at a very young age. If you've heard his real voice, it sounds completely different. He actually grew up in Easton, PA, which is actually very close to where I live, in the Allentown area. As I understand it, he was taught how to say his Korean lines by Yunjin Kim (who IS a native Korean) during the filming process, because he didn't speak Korean at all on his own. If he does have an accent, he probably got it from listening to his family.
@afnaidel i'm native korean and Jin's Korean is not to my native standard. I used to live with Busan natives, I understand and talk in that accent. Jin's Korean is not just pretty bad. it's real bad. and It's not Busan accent. It's just Korean with strong English accent. If it was Busan accent, his nickname 꽈찌쭈 wouldn't have existed. He improved though, def. season after season.
His Korean is horrible?! Considering Korean is his first language. Im pretty sure its not horrible....lol...This was one of my favorite scenes...I loved Sun and Jin....amazing love story!!
@Kristinaheartsmazin English was his first language... and all of my Korean friends tell me that his Korean sounds non-native and awkward... still he's a great actor though. Just saying, Koreans definitely consider his accent non-authentic...
When you grow to love a character who doesn't speak any english in a series until it's 5 season... that's talent brotha! Can't wait till he plays Chin Ho in the new "Hawaii Five-O"!!!!!!
ya like, since he has a Korean heritage it's probably pretty easy for him to get into it. I'm Italian but I was born in America, but whenever I hear an Italian accent I can relate to it for some reason. It's just in my nature.
@BeAsTm0aD doubtful. if no one ever told you that you were of italian ancestry and you hadn't grown up with people that spoke italian, then i don't see how hearing the language would have any special affect on you.
