i don't care what they are made of so long as they are heavy enough to be accurate, it is hell trying to find good sized rocks that are the right weight!\buy the way, nice bullets, they look pretty authentic
@abetwo4321 you need to air dry them first. A good way to tell when they are dry is by touching them and if they are cool to the touch then they are still wet and need to dry. By doing this you will reduce the amount of cracks and breaks when fired.
What's "vitrified" and why is it (implied to be) bad? I guess those of us who have no room to put a kiln are shit outta luck for this kind of sling ammo, huh. That sucks. I'd love to have a bucket-full of the stuff like you showed! Looks like you were just gathering eggs! Speaking of which, is there a slinging benefit to the ammunition being egg-shaped as opposed to closer to spherical? If so, what is the advantage?
"Vitrified" means turned to glass or hardened. You don't need a kiln... just build a good fire and put your clay forms in the middle of it. Be sure they are completely dry or they will shatter in the fire. Keep the fire white hot for several hours then let it cool to touch. Sand causes the glassiness. It is bad because if it breaks/shatters in the hunted animal you might break a tooth when eating. It's not egg shaped but oval and its a proven shape, proven in history as deadly.
i have a wood burning kiln that i made from clay and other bits wind assisted it can get to about a bright yellow bout 1000c/1100c i can use bellows and can get a white about 1500c but when i push like that the stuff becomes Vitrified.
yea i haven't thrown a fishing weight the seem to tear drop , but i made made some bi pointed lead ammo their good they go through sheet metal they cant be thrown far but they hit hard.
i read the Romans used lead ammo some times. have you ever tried it? i used some of the lead fishing weights and they hada nice feel to them but they need to be reshaped maybe.

Great video. When you fire your ammo do you air dry them first or do you put them in the fire damp?

this is alittle off topic but, does it matter how big your pouch is, or if it is square or rounded
lpcenter52 2 years ago
i use a oval pouch about 4" long 2" wide

czj10 2 years ago 2
The fire doesn't have to be to big, you just make sure there in the middle.cooking time 3 to 4 hours the long the better really .

I just though of somthing couldn't you use a paint ball for a sling ammo? It would be a way to use it in a fun manner. Btw Liking the music relaxing.

vitrified means melts in to glass it weakens the clay and make the surface lumpy.
before I got a klin I used to make this kind of ammo out of a plaster and sand mix 3 sand to 1 plaster it works quite well.
not egg shape bi-pointed like a rugby/American football i guess it something to do with it cutting through the air better more aero dynamic.
