The ironic thing is that with MediCare, THE EXACT OPPOSITE is true. I have NEVER had to beg a MediCare bureaucrat to cover a particular procedure. If my doctor says I need it, that's good enough for them. Unlike with private insurance, where every healthcare decision my doctor makes is second guessed by a pencil pusher at the insurance company.
