Its great to see our kinfolk in the USA playing the pipes well and keeping our faith and traditions alive.

Most Presbyterian's in America are of Ulster-Scots decent who traveled to America because of religious intolerance in Scotland and Ireland. The Presbyterian church is the most democratic church in the world.

There are many pipe bands in Northern Ireland, many of them parade on the 12th of July Orange Order parades each year.

Nobody chooses to be scottish, america or chinese etc. Not being able to choose to be scottish is irrelevant. You can only be scottish if you come from scotland. My father is irish, that does not make me irish, it does make me half irish nor does it make me an "irish scot". I am only sacottish, I am 100% scottish because I was raised in scotland.

You, too, are Scots because of some ancient ancestor. Would you rather that they'd died of starvation after the 49? Remember many were given passage to the colonies not by their choosing.

I am scottish because I was raised in scotland at an age early enough for scotland to form my personality, character etc. I am scottish because I was shaped by scotlands; culture, people, language, dialect, ideology, beliefs, sense of inward and outward perceptions, attitudes, community, kinship, humour, politics, understanding, worldview etc.

The scots are not a race of people you cannot be scottish because of some obscure ancestor, that is ridiculous.

scottishnatiolist, the thing that really pisses me off, is when people who have never even stepped foot in scotland, try and lecture us scots on what makes someone scottish.

And I agree with you on the racial issue, the scots are not defined as a race through anthropology or scots law, or european statute; the scots are a community of people seperated from other europeans by community, culture etc. There is no such thing as scottish blood, what is scottish blood tartan coloured ?
