First, GDP naturally grows at an exponential rate, so the simple answer is "well of course it's exponentially higher"- that's the nature of economic growth.
(part 2) However, you make a slightly different point. You say that "global GDP" was higher. It seems that you're using economic growth as the definition for successful economic planning. In that case, the Chinese blend of Socialism and Capitalism (no, they aren't purely Communist) seem to have it right recently, with double digit GDP gains.
But this is all secondary to your larger point- the high marginal tax rate in the 1970's caused the 1973-1975 recession.

However, cutting government spending in a period of high unemployment is one of the most devastating things that can happen (see Herbert Hoover). If anything, the US needed to automatically increase the debt ceiling and spend spend spend (for now that is). Then, once everything is on track again, cut spending and raise taxes (to decrease the threat of another bubble forming).

By that logic, Capitalism was responsible for the 60 million dead in the imperial invasion of Africa, 10 million dead in the Congo Free State, as well as all deaths from famine. Harry Smith failed miserably in his attempt at trying to delegitimize Ann's points. I don't really know much about this woman. I simply stumbled on this video and several other interviews. I don't agree with her ideas. Just curious though why she is given such a thorough public lashing for speaking her mind in a book? Does anyone ever watch prime time T.V. anymore? Why aren't these news anchors also attacking Timmy, Cartman, Peter, The Smiths, The Bundys?

ann is NOT saying she's a victim because she defines who the real victims are in her book, Harry...what a LEAP. He just didn't like her and wanted to attack her. He didn't like what she was saying because it's TRUE. She made several points about left wing violence but harry doesn't want to talk about that. Ann's using "FACTS" and the left can't handle it.

@whiteej21 Ron Paul often refers to that as blow-back, and I completely agree. My turn to nit-pick though, how many presidents have been killed by someone from another country!? Oddly enough, it's the Americans ourselves that the President should be more concerned with. Again though, attempts (like a dud grenade tossed at Bush) have come from non-citizens.. I'm really not making any points here, just stating things I find interesting and relevant.
