What a bunch of idiots with the Hitler/Nazi uniform thoughts. In 1930 the officer/pilots of almost all nations, including the USA, wore almost identical uniforms!
Not seen this before , i have the 2 busby berkeley box sets which are great and includes 9 films + loads of extras , but there are more early busby berkeley films to collect , i am unsure if all are available , i want whoopie (1930) palmy days (1931) wonder bar (1934) only is now available from tcm vaults archives collection and after seeing this clip happy landing or flying high sorry to confuse but this clips film goes under both titles and the good news is this is also available from tcm
I thought I knew just about all of Busby Berkeley's work, but this was new to me. Compared to his later numbers, especially the Gold Diggers series, this is a bit sloppy. But, this was early days. Many thanks for this.
so? people enjoyed the small things in life more back then, now we only want big cars and big money.
Movies full of sexual things and songs that are about violence, no, the '10's, '20's and '30's are way better than the 21'st century, despite the economic crisis and depression in the '30's.
I totally agree with you. I would much rather live in the 30's to probably about the early 60's, when people had sophistication, politeness, and class.
Multiple small glittery model airplanes! Plus, the names of three notable early aviators spelled out (Byrd, Hawks, Lindy). Yep, pretty crazy.
And no, that's not a Nazi influence. Hitler had not taken over Germany yet when this film was made. The Nazis adapted existing military garb for their uses; they didn't invent it.
Adapted existing military garb? They gained power including over the armed forces, they'd have hardly redesigned military clothing on having achieved that goal. Anyhow - the uniforms in this vid remind me of some modern Highway Patrol ones:-)
Very similar uniforms to the Italian airmen of the period.......but German?..well off the mark, the German uniforms were later, and would have been the dress versions.
... Yes Hitler was in prison at the time, But in Europe in the 30s , the far right was uprising. Franco was preparing its forces in Morocco and the 1936 civil war followed. Yes Hitler was not in power at the time but the broth was brewing.
the Air Age art has a special spirit. It took real warmongers to make people forget this, and bean counter management to keep it forgotten. Imagine if you had cabaret at airports when big storms ruin schedules....
THAT WAS ADORABLE! I love it - thanks for posting.

Super filmmaking. I made a happy landing on this video. I love all this stuff. The woman at 4:12 looks familiar. Any ideas who it is?

How I loved dancing these old numbers. I wish they still had musicals like these. It was a lot of work, but we enjoyed it.

I wish I was young in the 1930's... The 21th century is so boring and ugly :(

you mean young and well to do, remember the depression was going on for most folks.

Does she actually sing "I'm bloody proud" there? It kind of sounds like it.
What a charming number, I wish you could get some of these films on DVD.

Like it, and early Busby, but their is a bit of Hitlers/Nazi influence, even in Hollywood, at the time, with the male dancers uniforms.
gardenalien 4 years ago
???? Don't see it. It is an AVIATION number and the dancers are in AVIATOR uniforms.
The simplest explanation is usually correct.
