What a propaganda video :-) Entering the war in the middle 1944 when it was clear that Germany will be defeated soon just to reap some glory. The real steps to victory were made at Stalingrad and Battle of Kursk. Of course, bombing defenseless cities was far easier ))
@Foolosopher200, USA entered the war less than 6-months after the USSR was invaded. Combat on land, sea, & air was immediate in the HUGE Pacific Theater, immediate in the Atlantic & in the air over Britain, & in Nov. 1942 in N. Africa. In May 1943, ~130,000 Germans & 120,000 Italians surrendered to Brit. Commonwealth, Free French, & USA forces. Britain won the first large victories against the Axis in 1939 - 41 in East & North Africa, where ~300,000+ Italian troops were captured etc.
@christof139 USA entered the war 6 months after the USSR was invaded - yes, but in fact it was Japan who attacked Pearl Harbour to force the USA into the war )) May 1943, you say? Search for statistics how many German soldiers were killed or captured at the Battle of Kursk or the Battle of Stalingrad. You will be surprised to learn that on Eastern Front there were more ARMIES than there were DIVISIONS fighting in Northern Africa or in Italy ))
@Foolosopher2009, Hey dumbhead, I have MANY of excellent books on statistics. Go preach to someone else. Nazis at Kursk lost more men to the USSR counteroffensives after the Nazi offensive rather than during the Nazi offensive. Of course there were more casualties on the East Front due to the scale of the Nazi invasion, the length of time of the entire campaign, Stalin needlessly wasting his troops, etc. There were armies & army groups fighting in the Med. & Western Europe, not a few divisions.
@Foolosopher2009, IOTW, you know simplified, inaccurate general history & not much else. There were more tanks involved in the Brit. offensive Goodwood in Normandy than at Prokhorovka, although the entire Kursk campaign was larger than the Normandy campaign, although the Nazis lost nearly all (~1,300+) of their tanks & SPGs during the Normandy campaign, & more in the entire 1944 French campaign where an area the size of Ukrania was freed in ~85-days & Nazi losses were comparable to Bagratian.
@Foolosopher2009, You also neglect the HUGE Pacific Theater & the fact that the British Commonwalth & the USA had to divide their forces between Europe, the Med. & the Pacific. Stalin was seeking to make a truce with Hitler in late 1941 but it luckily didn't happen. Unfortunately, due to Stalin's prewar purge of the Soviet officer corps & his bad leadership the people of the USSR suffered huge casualties.
@Foolosopher2009, 500,000 Germans in Italy = 2 armies +, = an army group, Italian-German forces in Italy were in effect an army group (~275 - 300,000 troops) as were the 7th USA & 8th BrIt. armies. There were several nazi & allied army groups in W. Europe. Too bad we ran out of petrol/gas in the early fall of 1944 because if we didn't we would have gotten to Berlin before anyone else, although at Yalta (or another conference) it was agreed to let the USSR take Berlin.
@Foolosopher2009, You're a complete idiot. Without the massive material aid from Britain, Canada, & the USA the USSR may very well have had to make a truce as Stalin attempted to contact the nazis in late 1941 to do so. The Nazis were the first to bomb defenseless cities & towns in WWII, & the Japanese did so before them in China. Nazis shouldn't have started something they couldn't win. You must read Nazi propaganda & enjoy it.
@christof139 Please pay attention that I called nobody an "idiot" in the first place ) The "land-lease" law was a great help to USSR, that's true. At the same time without Soviets fighting the Germans on land the Allies would probably have to sign a peace treaty with the Germany as early as 1942 when England was starved by German U-boats blockade.
@Fool, Read more & pay attention yourself. 1940 t0 Nov. 1941 the Brit Commonwealth & allies took out ~400,000 Italian & Nazi troops & much equipment & material. The N. & East African campaigns were the 1st great allied victories of WWII. Final surrenders in May, 1943 in Tunisia = ~130,000 German & 120,000 Italians, not to mention the 80,000 taken out at El Alamein. Accurate estimates place the number of nazi & Italian tanks & SPG's sunk before getting to N. Africa at ~600., etc.
The given skyscraper for a victory over Hitler any more had no military value, is simple the USA and England, understanding that one of these days the USSR will take Berlin, aspired to snatch the piece from a victory over Germany
What a fuck i can not see a real battle i see on the beaces 2 americas sodiler fallen ..But the Americans have more fallen sodiers than 2 mann ..Why plays not the really battle
Correction: The Germans died for an inhuman, barbaric, mass-murdering ideology and for a screaming megalomaniac.
The allied forces brought absolute defeat to Germany, but at the same time freedom and democracy (at least to those in the western part of Germany).
As for the Jews: Wonderful people. Not one blew up a club, restaurant or bus in Germany as means of revenge for millions of murdered and tortured people. Not one.
it was the beginning of the end for the third reich of Nazi Germany! the liberation of fortress Europe is underway! from London(general headquarters of the Allied Powers) to the world...........this is D-Day!
@DeutschwehR, What do you have against Jewish people you deluded neo-nazi scumbag? Many Jews fought for Germany in WWI, & also Turkey etc., they did more for Germany than you have or ever will do. Du bist ein schweinhundt.
I always find it interesting looking at comments made on sites like this how the Brits, US and Soviets defeated the Nazis. There were other countries involved in the liberation of Europe which played a very integral part in both the Italian and Europe campaigns. Canada, Free French and Poland to name a few. All were involved in the heavy fighting and made the same Sacrifices as the so called big 3 but get very little credit. Based on their country's population even more.
That was just a tactical operation, after the d-day german troops are totaly 12 (mil) division= almost 2,5 army so..it'sbetween 120-125000 soldier mechanize infartry + tank troopers included..but allies 4 MİLLİON land person+air support+ france militians..ahh what a justice..true danger came from east with 6 million soviet..and americans think it's if soviet troops do not exit in euorpa after the war?so it's happend and after the war started cold war..
The Marshall Plan was a great plan to rebuild Western Europe and was very effective and better than what the Soviets did in Eastern Europe. People & corporations from the USA, France, germany, Britain, Benelux, Denmark, Norway Italy etc. ALL benefitted from this plan to rebuild Western Europe and the plan was immensely more effective and beneficial than what the Soviets did in Eastern Europe.
@christof139 The Marshall Plan was a piece of shit. The only reason for this was the overproduction in America. Ask european people now, how do they see the world today. The terrorists attack the capitalists, the Americans and British.
@dasueberich1, The Marshall Plan worked very well & rebuilt Europe quickly in comparison to the Soviet attempts to do the same in eastern Europe. You'd be suprprised how many europeans are still thankful for the defeat of the nazis & still support NATO. Many young kids in Europe are spoiled, deluded, confused, & have no realization of what the nazis & Soviet systems did. USA does not kill for oil, & we don't Iraq's oil. You people are stupid.
@dasueberich1, You're stupid. Lucky you didn't live in Soviet dominated eastern Europe because you would be more brainwashed & stupid than you are now. Compare standard of living between eastern & western Europe & it is clear that the Marshall Plan & western forms of governments - various types of limited parlimentarian/constitutional republican democracies achieved more than communist system.
By the end of July, 1943 the Soviets had defeated the German Kursk offensive and the initiative switched to the Soviets. However, Stalin and Zhukov both stated that lend lease, especially the planes, the 4 & 6-wheel drive jeeps & trucks, 7 the machine tools & metals, commo wire & telephones, etc. (~40-60% of all Soviet explosives were from the USA) were immensely important & without them the USSR may have been forced to ask for a truce. In fact Stalin did contact the nazis about a truce.
Serioiusly, one may not admit it but it was the soviets that turned the table on the nazis. Soviets were already pushing the germans back when the D-Day happend. I am not stating that they won the war alone, of course the other allied helped, but probably one of the mains reasons to Britain and America invade was to leave the less territory as possible to the comunists, since US and UK already anticipated that they cold have and dominated most of europe... just like they did to the iron curtain.
Same goes to Marshal Plan... one of its objectives was to refund Europe in order to avoid new red revolutions... By that times allieds mains concern was USSR, not Hitler.
That's pretty interesting. Would you say that if the Soviets were not fighting the Germans from the East, US and UK would have let Germany keep France?
I always thought the British invaded France not only to 'help the opressed' but to neutraise the German threat so close to British soil within attacking range,
What you have said seems to shed new light on the situation to me.
"i dont get why all americans think there army done the most in this war when they done the least"
