  • VERY WELL DONE!! Trent & Johnny would be proud.

  • Sheryl Crow rocks! Great performance.

  • This was a nice tribute. As a women it was nice to know what the song would sound like with a feminine edge. Anyone who makes a cover of it good or bad says a lot. It shows the respect love and understanding of the artist. Trent & Johnny both know what the meaning of this song is from their personal history. Knowing about both of their lives makes this song even more special.

I do have a comment for nonSteel, even though you have a point, if you aren't a NIN fan you can't say shit about wh

  • trent, johnny, sherryl....thank you trent for this amazing song... all of you bring me to tears.... EVERY FUCKING TIME.

  • Johnny made this song his own after asking permission of Trent reznor of NIN who wrote it, if he would mind him doing a cover of it. Trent of course said yes go for it and in interview afterwords said that the song was now Johnny's. Sheryl is doing her interpretation of Johnny's interpretation of Trent reznors song. Its music its, it beautiful, it heart felt, whether original or a cover music is beautiful because it is diverse.

  • I remember seeing this when it first aired and hadn't heard it since. This brought back a lot of memories from right after Johnny died. Raising a glass to the eternal man in black. Thank you Johnny Cash

  • great song, great artist, great writing, great venue, great spririt of the event. Not fond of her Mississippi cover or the Rod Stewar but I am a Sheryl Crow Fan so if it means something to her means something to me. I can be critical but ask someone who has never heard Johnny or Reznor do it so feedback is unbiased or pre-disposed. Would have given anything to have been there....

  • far out.....She is incredible. As good as Johnny's. She blows my mind live!

  • Good God, This is a really brilliant performancee, its a tribute to johnny. Would you rather have someone like beiber sing it instead of a well established Artist like Sheryl Crow? yeah thats what i thought.

  • Full of absolute WIN!

  • This is a brilliant version of Hurt, Cash sang his version in his own superb way but so does Crow. Complaining about this is almost like crying about u have no understanding about good music whatsoever.

  • Nine fan**

  • This may be a cover of a cover..... But frankly, if that bothers you - get a grip, I.m an avid NIN - Cash covered that song for a reason, cos' it was meaningful to him, and here at a memorial show we have an artist giving her own interpritation of that song - how is that "so" wrong? the fact that Reznors music has touched and inspired musicians from different backgrounds and genres should be enough for any real NIN fan - if you cant accept that, then broaden your mind, or look else where,

  • I'm guessing most of you don't realize this song is a cover of a cover of an industrial rock /metal song.

  • she did this awesomely. dont care what anyone says. from one female to another, sheryl, thank you

  • Personally I think this is a great cover, she sung it with passion and feeling.

  • One of the worst covers I have ever heard; in no way, shape, or form, do I believe Sheryl Crow knows what the words she's singing really mean.

BUT... if you insist on doing it, at least do it right. Do not, I repeat, do NOT screw up the lyrics. At least Johnny got that part right.

  • @kmb117 maybe sheryl does not feel the meaning of this song, but she did a great job preforming it. her voice is the only one out of everyones that really fits. you cant expect her to be johnny! she did a reallly good job.

  • @TheDeanmartinfan1 She did a really good job?? She messed up the lyrics. That does not constitute a good job at all. Her voice is the only one "out of everyone" (I'm assuming that you mean John and Trent) that really fits?? That is a ridiculous statement; it lacked the emotion necessary to convey the meaning of the song. I don't expect her to be Johnny, what I do expect is that she get it right. Clearly that is beyond her capabilities.

  • @kmb117 id like to see you get up there and sing the song. it is nerve racking and scary true she is a professional and she shouldn't mess up the lyrics but she did and everyone make mastakes. what i ment by she is the only one is that i would not like to see willie or kris sing that song it would not fit. i think she did a great job!!

  • Kids nowadays are extremely stupid.

  • amazing cover, goose bumps. JC and Sheryl were good friends, JC cover her song Redemption Day as he was inspired by her too. Very emotional, full of soul. Well done Sheryl, RIP JC

  • A really great song, so beautifully sung. Johnny Cash R.I.P.

  • Only true Johnny Cash fans know that Sheryl's performance was awesome.

  • @TheFearsEnd

    uhh...why?

only true nin inch nails fans knows the meaning of this song

(i hate nin inch nails. i just didnt like your comment)

  • @nonSteel

"If you was hit by a truck and you was lying out there in that gutter dying, and you had time to sing *one* song. Huh? One song that people would remember before you're dirt. One song that would let God know how you felt about your time here on Earth. One song that would sum you up."

If you don't know why Johnny covered this song, then shut the fuck up and go listen Nine Inch Nails version.

  • @TheFearsEnd

you've been drinking too much jack daniels. you're too old to be on the computer.

  • @TheFearsEnd Indeed. And he would have loved it.

  • I think she did an amazing tribute performance! Yes, I know, it rips into my soul when I hear and see Johny Cash singing this song. However, this was a TRIBUTE to him and she was AMAZING! She didn't try to sing or be him. Personally, I think she didn't want to insult anyone by trying to sing it like he had. So, she performed it as she saw fitting. Beautifully and her way! ; )

  • amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • How can you say this is flat? @n1namar1e, It was an incredible emotional performance in tribute to J Cash. Very moving..

  • I don't think anyone can ever sing this song again after Johnny's version and the video that came later. Even Trent Razor said this song isn't his anymore. It's just too linked to Johnny now.

  • A heartfelt version & a good live performance. Just an opinion of another musician. Jeez, so many haters here. JC would be pleased.

  • Thanks-you are right. JC is pleased. She can feel it. Notice that JC and the other JC have the same initials??

  • i focus on the pain

  • johnny was very sick at the end he went through hell

  • this is great well done

  • I like Johnny's version alot, because he gave it alot of passion. But NIN's original is still the best. This on the other hand was total and absoulute shit.

  • i agree N1, this song is a song that could only be sung by the man himself.. but good try.

  • in my opinion... the best ever cover of the best song ever!!! sevendust comes a close second! where can i download an mp3 of this?

  • Johnny's version was so loaded with emotion, so rough, so raw, it reached into you and held you prisoner......this is just....someone singing the words...flat and dead.
