The drums seem a little out with the vocals in this. Also, the volume of the mics for the backing vocals should be lowered. Compare this video to youtube.com/watch?v=89v9Yjw1p94 and youtube.com/watch?v=3EOnWgaumtg&feature=related There's a huge difference in the quality of the live performance.
I adore this arrangement. though i don't think Smog is the backing vocalist. it is usually the drummer Neal Morgan or else the accordian player Dan Cantrell.
For long time prforming on album songs on Live for my senses... if I was there I coudn't be seaten eraing this fantastic 'music party'... this harper it's captiving as the best Genesis epic stories during Peter Gabriel... because first of all she is an special story teller with a big personallity... hoping to see her in Barcelona
yes i agree. if i see her, itd be grand to her alone. by herself. but, if not, i would prefer the orchestra. the backing band just doesnt do it for me.
i kind of like it...and it's esepcially interesting with this song and others like peach plum pear for the live experience to be more than just her. i dunno, i enjoy the other guys playing with her.
her barebones backing band are a bit lackluster, but with a proper orchestra, she sound amazing.
I'm a bit disappointed about the final bridge in this version, because the studio had a much bassier male voice, and his harmony was half a beat faster than Newsom's, so it had this great bass/treble echo effect
wow.......that is all!

Do you know who her backup singer is for the last bridge? The bass?

He was in a band called Smog. I'm sure it's on Wikipedia somewhere.

He is called Bill Callahan but he used to release albums under the name [smog]

Yeah the the backing band isn't all that good, but they do need it for the "all my bones" part.

well, the backing band only appeals to me during the ending bridge. cause it adds feeling and emotion.

honestly, it sounds better properly mixed, with a full orchestra behind it.

to each their own. :)

I would have liked this better without the backing band, and I give her instant credit on just performing this 17 minute epic song.
I love the song. And this is a great performance. But I ever see her, I'd rather see her without a backing group.
