  • Join the army, run up steps...

Sounds like a fucking drag. I hope they pay you well.

  • Wow. So that's "stairway to heaven"! I remember my Platoon Sgt. talking about that when he was in Korea in the mid-1970s.

  • Anotyher fellow here sent me a picture of that same stairway five years ago. It had been completely remodeled. The original had no railing and was only 72 steps. VERY steep!

  • Camp Casey Korea. I remember when I was there in 94-95. I was in 2nd tank by 1st tank. We took that stairs when they closed the 2nd tank mess hall for about 3 months. I missed Korea and hope I could be back there again just to visit. Thanks for the memories.

  • 1st Tank! Aces High! A -Co. Dec '99- Feb '01.

We used to call those 72 steps. Did they add some more steps to it?

  • Yes. Its been rebuilt and now it's 115 steps...still dangerous, though...

  • 1st Tank! Aces High! A-Co. Dec '99- Feb '01.

We used to call those 72 steps. Did they add some more steps to it?

  • I had to run up those carrying a 245lb man on my back, twice, no more saying "Fuck you SGT!"

  • i remember those stairs they sucked!

  • I agree those steps are a bitch. Go E 1/43 DAMN STINGERS!!!!!!

  • them steps will break you off good if you do them 10x but 4x is good nuff for me! Go "E" 1/43.

  • I haven't seen that view in a long time. Our CO took us over those stairs a few times on those loooong Friday runs. Luckily, no one ever stumbled. (A co. 1-72 Ar. "Strike Force" 1991- 1992) My bn. commander was LTC Taguba, the two star author of the famous Taguba Report on Abu Graib Prison a few years ago.

Thank you for posting that shot buddy. It was nice to see Dragon Valley again.

  • Duece Tank rocks. 1994-1995 & 2000-2001

  • Damnit Perkins you have ruined my youtube expierence i was hoping to for get these bastards in about 3 months but now I wont be able to.

  • Camp Casey's infamous 72-steps are gone!!

  • If my memory serves me correct, there were less stair, but bigger.

  • Are those the stairs leading to Dragon Valley? I was there between 2000-2001. THe stairs look newer. They used to be yellow, and I don't remember the rails.

Haha - So much fun down range in Korea!! I wonder how it has changed.

  • I hve only been here for 5-6 months,so i'm not sure how it once was.I can't imagine it's really changed much in the last few years since they are pulling us all out by 2009-ish. I do know this: I hate running up that shit. I'm in Bco 1-72. who were you with?

  • I was with Dco 1-72 "First Tank!" My room was on the second floor above the cantina.

Anyway, I found an old pic of the stairs, and they certainly have changed. And yes, I remember sometimes running up them at the end of an early morning PT. A drunken stagger up them on a Korean winter night will quickly sober one up too.

Within the next week or two, I can try to find a scanner and send a pic.

  • Coincidently, Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven was very popular back then and you could hear it playing often among the quonset hut barracks.

  • I was at Casey in 73 and Hovey in 74. I pulled guard duty in one of those old guard towers that you walked passed. It was a different time and a different Army back then.

  • Amen to that. I cannot wait to get back to the States and in a real unit....
