Wow, what a great reception for Deep Impact returning to the winners circle. Ouija Board faced a very tough task in trying to beat a very very good horse at his track. Home field advantage is talked about alot in other sports, but it is a factor in racing too. Not having to ship and running over a familiar track are big advantages. Even within the US, it is very tough for a horse on the east coast to go out west and win, and vice versa.
Deep impact is good in Japan only. Theres a reason why he didnt race in America. He lost his only start out side of Japan. When he beat Ouija board she was so tired from her breeders cup win two weeks before, I think she was a better horse by far.
Absolutel garbage there from Shelooksfamous. Deep Impact is one of the world's all-time greats full stop. To say he 'couldn't' win outside Japan based on one start where he wasn't right and also ridden not the best way shows your amateurism here. Ouija Board's rider doesn't share your foolish opinion - he in fact acknowledged DI as the best in the world. Fool.
@AldoGodolfus Total agreed with AldoGodolfus, Shelooksfamous is totally non-sense. If the rider was not the "Champion" Yutaka, Deep Impact already had his victory in Europe.
What a brilliant horse! His farcical run in the Arc was due to poor management of him and he was let down by connections. He didn't have to redeem himself here but it was so good to see him do it and in great style. Ouija ran her heart out just weeks after the Breeders' Cup.
Both unstinted praise and contemptuous sniff he has elicited. The fact is: he is a little horse--only 436kg--, but his lap of honour is just as elegant and majestic as at a gallop.
Dall'Italia: GRANDE DEEP, very very strong horse!!!!!
