Thanks for posting this song, Johnny. It is one of my favorites from the Stray Cats. I have often wondered how Buddy Holly would have sounded if he had been able to perform the song. It has such a strong Buddy Holly sound to it.
Madonna is in the Rock and Roll hall of fame and the Stray Cats aren`t even though they started their careers at the same time. What does this mean? Madonna is more Rock and Roll of course!
State of the music industry and most of the people who lap it up like sheep I'm afraid :(
Almost like people have forgotten what music actually is nowadays - sad when you think about it.. Also sad that bands seem to be written off by the time they'r in their mid thirties, never giving them a chance to develop. It's a crime really.
eddie i agree with the comment from ozid your an idiot i been into the cats since the 80,s lee rocker is a great slap bassist ,you ever seen them live ? i doubt it cos if you had you would know it not just talking from a fans point of view but as a musicians,i used to play drums with rockin lord lee and the outlaws a long time ago dunno if your a brit but our bassist plays with the corsaires and he loves lee
There from the US but they have an affinaty with the UK because we were having a rockabilly revival in late 70s early 80s and the americans had no interest in them so they came here and got really big (with the help of davey edmunds) so they like the uk because it got them famous really. Runaway boys was there first hit in the UK and all the original teddy boys hated them. They still freakin rock but they didnt play Gina when i saw em!
eddie burns74 u r an oxygen theif u fuckin cretin. lee rocker along with brian n slimjim put on the most powerful show in the history of rockabilly. i saw them at the old melbourne hotel in perth, western australia in1990 on acid and it was a life altering experience in the MOST positive fashion.
many of you should know that the stray cats were indeed formed in the U.S but they received little of a fan base. they heard of the rockabilly revival going on in england in the late 70's early 80's so moved across the pond. when releasing their second album it received bad reviews so they went back to the U.S
WHOOOPS!!! what a Fucking twat I am, was a bit pissed, remebered Brian having english accent(what was I thinking) and song rumble in Brighton (assumed Brighton UK, notorious for rocker/ skinhead / mod fights. Massive apologies, you're spot on.
The Stray Cats are a rockabilly band formed in 1979 by guitarist/vocalist Brian Setzer (Bloodless Pharaohs/Brian Setzer Orchestra) with school friends Lee Rocker and Slim Jim Phantom in the Long Island town of Massapequa, New York.
it must be really though to play 20 songs with a slap bass in a row like lee rocker does... Your fingers must bleeding after that!! Respect to Lee Rocker!!
So, yeah, I'm a bit confused (or stupid), but, who originally played this song?... because If I'm not mistaken blast off! is from 1989... and I have this album from another band relased in 1981 where there's a cover of gina. I hope somebody can clear this to me.
u kno what... i love their songs that sound like this, altho i like "rock this town" and "s.c. strut" but honestly those 2 songs are over rated vocally and musically there not as good as this song or "bring it back" cuz it's more catchy and apealling and you could listen to it over and over if yall kno what i mean. but yet again it's my opinion so no one should start spammin or bad mouthin cuz i like these guys and thankz for posting this video
I didn't know there was a video to this song! I haven't heard it in ages since my vinyl got ruined. I wish the Blast Off album was back in print and on CD. This and Nine Lives were my fave songs off that album.
