She has some old data that she wants to save to floppy disks. I told her about burning her data to a CD or DvD. Or even storing her data on an external drive or a flash drive. I guess she wants to stay in the 80's lol.
lol, She really doesn't know anything about PCs. She understands how much I love building them, and she likes to participate from time to time. I think she wanted a home built PC because I needed to build something.
I didn't mean it like that. I am saying that if a person cannot take being criticized on YouTube that person should think about closing their account. It had nothing to do with people giving their opinions, just recieving them.
@Wigwahm lol, weren't u being criticized here though ? maybe not, i didn't read all the comments. Regardless, yea i was just bored. Good rig though.. I have the same mobo. Works gr8 with my X3 720... soon to be X6.
Intel is good but so overpriced, like ATI vs Nvidia ^^ I love nvidia cards but i love amd proc's lol always have,
As for this build why did you not get the phemon ii x2 550 be and unlock with that mobo aka 955 x4..? Could have saved some cash and myself i hate kingston memory, love up the OCZ Reaper / Dominator :)
And ps that case is nice, a good case for people who mind there pc not looking nice, i just sold my cosmos s > CM scout with noctua's
I think you could of got a bigger hard drive because it would fill up easily as games normally takes up a lot of space. New games take up a minimum of 1gb or more
It's not easy being cheesie, but AMD manages to make it work!
Intel processors crush AMD processors!
Intel Processors and AMD/ATI Video cards are a good combo! nVidia has been riding the crap train when it comes to highend gaming GPU, but there work station GPUs kill anything on the market!
Also, you did your girl friend a huge injustice when you bought that AMD board and processors! Freeze-ville is right around the corner!
Live the dream, get an Intel MC processor with VT!
Everyone knows that Intel CPUs are better than AMD CPUs as far as performance. They are just way overpriced for that performance differential.
Besides I have always owned AMD CPUs, and I have never been disappointed. The CPUs my girlfriend and I own, are very good and worth spending our money on.
I'm just wondering, have you read any issues about stability issues with the 940 CPU, or the M3A78-E? We haven't had any issues at all.
LMAO, no it's not a Snuggie. It's my Redskins pullover. I wear it all day everyday when it's cold. I couldn't stop laughing when I read your comment. It's does kind of look like a Snuggie.
on friday i'm getting all my parts to put my computer together and i got that motherboard how well do you, or for that matter does she like the motherboard and how it works
I got it for her because she picked it out herself. She does game, not as much as I do. We got this build for her so that she won't need to get a PC for a very long time.
You have a bad power supply / you have a bad power cable / you don't have a CPU in / you have a dead CPU in / you have a dead motherboard / you are shorting the motherboard
Yeah it could be a bad power supply or a bad mobo. If you can, test both the power supply and the mobo by using parts that works. That's the long way, but the best way to diagnose the problem.
I got her 4GB of RAM because it's the most you can use for her OS, and it costs 100 bucks.
I chose to get her such a small hard drive because she really will never use all of the storage up. If she does, I can just add up to five more hard drives in the future.
The RAM was tested and certified for SLI, but it can be used for an ATi setup as well.
650W is plenty of power for a single 4890 and the 940. If I added another 4890, or another hard drive, there may be an issue.
why do people use such high wattage PSU's? I have core i7 920, 2 gtx 285's in SLi, Asus P6T mobo, a 7,200 RPM 1 TB HDD, 150 GB 10K RPM Velociraptor, 24x DVD drive, 6GB of DDR3 1600 MHz CAS6 Dominator GT's, and a shit load of fans, ALL on a 650 watt.
You may be able to power all of that, the problem is that it will create a fire hazard because it is working so hard to power everything. Is your power supply running hot? I am surprised you haven't had any stability or brown out issues. With all of that stuff you have in your PC, I would go with at least 1000W, 1200W to be safe. Are you able to overclock anything, or is it all bone stock? I need at least 100W of overhead from anything I put into my PC. I hope your power supply doesn't burn out.
You got one of those diamond in the rough PC parts.
I am not too knowledgeable about the ins and outs of power supply specs. I just know that the power supply needs to supply more power to the PC than what the PC parts use lol.
Good to know, now I will take a deeper look into the most efficient way to use a power supply in a build. I've read into PC Power & Cooling PSUs. Those are some really high quality PSUs.
I decided to say screw it and get an 850W Ultra X3 power supply. That is going to power two 4890s in Crossfire, PhenomII 940 CPU, two Raptor hard drives in RAID0, 8GB Kingston HyperX RAM. I should have plenty of overhead so I won't have any stability issues even if I overclock.
cant wait to get a job and get paid so i can have all these things that u people have and how much did it all cost o and u should have looked at the nzxt alpha
It is cool when you're able to buy your own things. I took a look at the NZXT case, it's not my type of case. I don't really like the acrylic window. It's nice to show off the parts, but I like a solid door.
Very nice setup. I have an AMD Athlon 64 x2 (3.0ghz) I bought 1yr ago and I have fallen in love with AMD. You really cant beat them as far as performance and price wise. I am going to upgrade to the Phenom II's as soon as I get some more money.
I would say that her PC needed a fan controller because she wanted the PC as quiet as possible. So I went with the fan controller and the CPU cooler. This CPU cooler is great for overclocking, so I figured that the CPU will still stay cool even if I put the cooler fan in it's lowest speed. It's worked so far, and it's very quiet. As far as being overkill, HELL YEAH!! Better to be over-prepared than under-prepared, lol.
She really doesn't have any idea what to do with this build. She just wanted me to teach her, lol. We actually finished the build last night around 11PM EST. I am planning to make another video sometime Saturday or Sunday.
That is a nice overclock. I am going to run the CPU for a while at stock values for a while and then overclock it. It seems this CPU has opened the eyes of a lot of people. In my opinion, this is the best CPU on the market. The cost to performance is unbeatable. TigerDirect can't keep them on the shelves. I cannot wait to see this thing in action.
Oh you best believe I am getting one as well, lol. I can't have her PC faster than mine. I want to get another Visiontek 4850 as well. Either that or get two 4870's from XFX. The price is cheaper than Visiontek's 4870, and XFX offers a lifetime warranty on all of their ATi cards. I might make the switch, and I love Visiontek.
Never seen a Visiontek HD4850.. but the XFX HD4850 looks damn good.. im running 2 powercolor HD4850 PCS+ (Professional Cooling System, from ZeroThem).. and the cooler on those are awesome.. idle right now on 39C on both cards.. :)
But i dont think they are selling those cards anymore..
You should wait for the AMD x4 955.. 3.2ghz stock AM3 and maybe it will make it on 4ghz stable..
She actually chose the fans. I would have gone with CoolerMaster, or Ultra. I was surprised at how nice these Rosewill fans are. I though it couldn't be that good for 5 bucks a piece. About the mobo, I thought it is weird that you have to plug some card into the black PCI-E slot in order to get full x16 on a single card setup. We'll see how well is works when we get it setup tonight.
We are going to try the onboard video first. The onboard video is an ATi 3300 graphics card. If it doesn't work well enough of her, then I will take the 3870 that is now in my research PC, and put it into her PC. When we get more cash, she will be getting two ATi cards for CrossFire.
M4A78-E, nice mainboard I have the older version to your board M3A78-T, make sure you update the bios.
She doesnt need that much power to play UT.
The IGP 3300 is one of the best, combined with 790GX chipset and Phenom II cpu. Shame you killed the machine with 32Bit OS.
You dont need new graphics card for your GF, you can run in Hybrid crossfire, onboard IGP+ your 3800 graphics card. Thats more than enough for your GF. Fan controller was pointless, 3pin fans can be controlled by Mainboard.
I like your comments, very intellegent. This board ran the new CPU just fine. You're right UT3 isn't that powerful, but the onboard 3300 GPU does not run UT3 at 1680x1050 very well. She wants a brand new card, not my 3870 like I want to do. I got XP Home because she doesn't need anything more than that. She did not want Vista. The fan controller was put in for silent operation mostly, as well as the CPU cooler.
You have inspired me to upgrade my GF rig she need more RAM and a video card she is using onboard and she likes those sims games. I might get her that and a few of the sims games her B Day is coming in July so got some time to save up.
Yeah, The upgrade should make a big difference. You could build her a new PC. That way, you'll be the hero, and you'll get your "fix" of building a PC ;)
Nice list, can't wait to see your build. She put all of the fans in her case last night. She's actually doing pretty well so far. She lost her temper only a couple times, lol.

We'll see how well is works when we get it setup tonight.

what video card you useing? cause that will bottleneck without one.
