I cannot BELIEVE this woman. I have this CD and listen to it frequently (along with several others of hers) but I keep coming back to these recital and recording videos. What an energetic, intelligent, etc. etc. etc. thing she is. She evidently does not care to edit out some of the less flattering stuff. On two occasions with interviews she casually mentioned that in big performances she "forgot the words" and talked about how important prompters are. I love her.
I suppose all these 'critics' are much better singers than Nathalie. O course her voice is different to when she was youger, she had surgery on her throat you dopes.
wow....this is the first time i notice how MUCH she strains with the high notes above the soprano high C.....I mean....she used to sing A6...can a vocal problem do so much to the voice? anyway, I prefer this dessay....she is more dramatical, and as she stated, after all those years of career she can finally sing what she rly wants to sing ;) way to go!
you are right, things have changed a lot the last few years vocally. But she acts out her roles more in harmony with her voice. She works so hard and has such flair.

That's interesting. I like much her Violetta (in a studio it's ok). But for the Queen Mary, I find her too nervous, a bit hysterical in fact, and out of the (supposed) character. She's revolted yes, but it's too much. (imo)
I definitely hear the bit of hysterical you're talking about. She played the Queen of the Night like that once. If you search "Der Holle Rache Dessay" it's the second one (where she's wearing blue with her hair up). That may just depend on that particular Magic Flute rendition though. She is by far the best singer I have ever heard, no doubt, and my overall favorite. =o)
I love her...i really really love her. But now her sound is so different from her first years. Now the high notes (even the C) sounds like a shriek.... is a little sad.
could you imagine recording with all those people live lol.....if like one violinist messed up and you had to start over then the like the clarinet haha....that would suck....they should do a skit like that just for humor.
It seems way too painful for her reaching all those high notes, nevertheless her voice and coloratura and top notes still have an outstanding natural beauty.
I would say that Violetta is a role that IS lyrico-dramatico, although the 1st Act aria is a coloratura showcase - something Dessay is definitely suited to.
Anything above a high C...and sometimes even the C has become kind of screechy...that being said, she's still a good actress, but that voice just doesn't shimmer like it used to.
I love it!! It's so encouraging to watch her make music...the phrasing, coloratura, dramatic commitment..it's well nigh breathtaking..cannot wait until this album comes out in the US. I thought it was supposed to come out January 8, 2007 but it appears it will be out Feb, 5

it's interesting...in the album it says that roberto alagna sings the tenor part in sempre libera. i guess that was edited in later.

magnifique. Especially the full body and power of the high E at end of sempre libera gets me, she seems to grap it out of high air.
such a warm woman and her participation in the music is wonderful.
