someone asked awhile back what poem is being quoted toward the end. It's actually some lines from John Fante's "Ask The Dust", which i just read a couple years ago. i grew up jamming Deconstruction and it was a delight to have those words jump out at me.
i remember buying this album when i was 14 or so and remembered thinking to myself, man if you replace the vox with perry's voice, you'd have jane's :)
i loved this album tho---- the song son was my favorite, a really good one. i miss jane's addiction. i'm so glad i got the opportunity to seem them live many times before their [first] breakup.
Fluke chance for me stumbling across these guys (thank you Beavis and Butthead.) Reminds me of a dirtier, crunchier Rush. I wonder how good they would have been live though, I feel like with only three members, their songs would have to be re-done. Either way, Decon is reaching my most played on my ipod rapidly.
have had three copies of this gem. two were lost by dumbass friends. still my favorite one and done album of all time. the whole record is good, but the back half is absolutely amazing. a shame they couldn't do more. and thanks to beavis and butthead for showing this once.
does anybody know somewhere i can get this album online? ive looked in every fucking record store in my town and i simply cant find it.. please if you downloaded it of some site please let me know
Not so sure about that, the band agreed to break up just as they went out to start the "Ritual" tour... Navarro and Perry were also in a terribly bad place drug-wise thru that tour, and Eric and Perry weren't speaking. I have a hard time believing they worked on any music from the start of that tour on...
"Dahmer got 15 life sentences today, I'm visiting friends in the hospital. Too much fear, too little life for much too long. The traffic of the windshields' filled with needy and greedy eyes".
Nothing Jane's Addiction, Porno For Pyros or RHCP recorded is half as amazing as Deconstruction.
awesome memories of cruising texas in the 90's blasting this tune..suburb car record...agree w/ others..this has aged very well...another gem so few people know about...glad i'm one of em..thnx for posting...this song kicks ass...!
Dave's rhythmic sense really shines on this tune. Deconstruction turned out to be a one-off project when Dave joined RHCP later that year. 'One Hot Minute' was one hot mess, though. I have the video of the MTV VMA '95 performance of "Warped", where Dave kicked major ass. I'll put it up as soon as I can find it.
@yzemagic So agreed, so agreed, I can't get enough of it, it's truly untouchable for those who like a sound that's fresh, vibrant & most of all visionary, pure brilliance along with lyrical & guitar genius, David Navarro is sheer genius on that guitar of his, yes, I will use that word again, I so wish these two would collaborate again...does your horizon burn...instant classic....perfect
Dave is probably using some kind of 'crunchy' overdrive FX and I suspect a lot of compression as well. I also like his guitar at the beginning and end of the song too, which I suspect is overdrive with chorus. Some really great sounds in this fantastic song :-)
they are great! navarro and avery best couple in rock music!big sur, single, fire in the hole,l.a. song and sleepyhead and hope best songs of the album...
...it's a shame that musicians like them are so underrated...fuck all the emo and pop music!!!!
I was turned on to this in 95 - without a doubt, one of my all time favorite albums. I have 2 - one to play and one put up in a nice safe place just in case.
If you haven't heard the whole thing - do it! You'll be amazed...Big Sur is awesome.
Fuckin great video man!!!! I always been grateful to you for post it. I own the original CD. I payed everything for it. And now I can buy one more copy from an internet buy site. This song is so amazing, really futuristic. The ALBUM of the 90's!
Dave Navarro kicks ass! I'd say he can play guitar good as hell! Eric Avery's not bad either! Deconstruction, Porno For Pyros & Jane's Addiction 4-ever!
lyrics for life. i picture these guys riding around L.A. with a notepad and pencil writing down everything they see. "I rolled by, eating my, egg mcmuffin and i didn't care"
You know Ive got to be honest. I was truly moved as many of us were by the notion of JA reuniting. Obviously the chemistry would inevitably be transformed. Yes the results are from a different planet but this remarkable music has true moments of beauty. Hope exists and thats enough for me! You know? "Thanks guys..for trying!" ok? Play ONLY Satellite Party for 3 days perhaps? or Dave's band until you want to shoot yourself and THEN listen to 'Just Because' Hey! It IS good! Ted, just admit it!
i think that Deconstruction was the best group after jane's addiction and the last good performance of Navarro, after that period with his friend Eric Avery (the REAL mind of the sound of JA) he stop to play the guitar and start the worst crative period of his carreer culminated in the bad appearance with the RHCP and the horrible reunion album with the Jane's
This is Dave in his best musical shape. I bought it back (around) 96. I confess it was a shock, considering it was way distant from JA's musicality.
This is and will ever be the best work ever made by these two guys. It constains Dave & Eric's best licks. I've listened to it for 5000 times or more. The layers, sounds, mixing, bass lines, lyrics and the artwork are pure state of art Californian sun in form of music.
i like dave's stuff, and i like eric's polar bear (hell i don't even know what he's doing now) - but deconstruction was a beautiful bookend to the chaos that was 80's and early 90's jane's.
Don't forget the beats from Concrete Blonde's first drummer, whose name escapes me. Those transitions from hippy-hoppish programmed beats to live thrashy drums were WAY ahead of their time.
