Was the first building in the video the weather video? Thanks for posting I landed in Germany just before she hit. I had tons of pics but not anymore. :(
I was there for 7 level training when it hit. We finished the course early but they wouldn't let us test out and leave prior to the hurricane. They even called back students who lived inland in safety to shelter during the storm. The storm was nerve wracking, but the aftermath was worse. I'm glad I wasn't stationed there, people who lived on base lost everything. We were fortunate to be on base, unlike a lot of people in the surrounding community, our shelters held together.
dudes i was in keesler from feb of 98 to may of 98 and came back almost a year later just to go through hurricane george. But that was a baby compared to katrina, im just glad noone was hurt on that base. Hoorah to you airmen for the recovery of that base. GO 333rd Mad Ducks
ye...I was in Keesler for 8 months of Tech School from Jun95-Jan96...I enjoyed it there, I remember going into shelter 3 times for hurricanes that never hit, we all thought we were wasting time in shelter!...man, seein' this, I'm glad it was a waste of time and nothing ever hit!
I was in Gulfport for Katrina and this really brought it all back home. What a storm that was - I hope no one has to go through anything like it again.
I was at Keesler back in 93 for Weather Forecasting school. Biloxi was a wonderful area and it's such a shame the people and the area have suffered so much.
I was there in the mid 90's for about 6 weeks for Tech School. I always thought about Keesler during the hurricane. I imagine they probably had even more rats in the dorms than usual that month.
I have been TDY there for a total of 2 years combined. I couldn't imagine what that must have been like. I was sheltered there as a student for Ivan, And as our weather troops returned from school after Katrina, they said it was nuts there.
