  • Hackett versus Sturmer, Phil versus Peter, blah blah blah, aren't fans tired of this??? It is what it is.

  • (sigh) Just can't leave the Gabriel/Collins and Hackett/Sturmer pissing contests alone. This is an excellent video. Isn't that plenty enough?

  • Daryl "Santana" Stuermer is much better than STEVE HACKETT, hehe...

Seriously now, GENESIS are much better than beatles n' stupid stones together.

  • In my opinion Phil in his prime was a better ROCK singer than Peter. He had that ballsy rasp and a bit more energy in his singing. Peter was and is a great artist and performer, but Phil, particularly circa 1980-86, was a better singer.

  • fucking GREAT! i have this show on DVD as well. (bootleg obviously)

  • I dont know why everyone is so bent up on comparing the PG era to the PC era. To me they are two seperate bands, and its all opinion anyway, why sit around and argue about it. Just sit back and listen to some good ol' Genesis.

  • Belli bellissimi, peccato per quel cane di Daryl Stuermer...:-(

  • from which tour this was takken?

  • @Satiaraha In the Cage/Slippermen - Duke tour (1980). Apocalypse in 9/8 from Supper's Ready - Selling England by the Pound tour (1973).

  • God Daryl is a douche

  • @ontherush77 suck it, daryl rocks!

  • @kingcrimson234 Yeah he's not exactly anywhere near the level off Hacket's godly awesomeness though is he.

  • Is this whole thing available on disk?

  • Genesis were a completely different band after Hackett left. The music no longer had that "something" and they lost me as a fan. LOVE the pre 1978 stuff.

At least Hackett acknowledges his musical past and continues to write great stuff.

  • chopped up a bit but fun to relive none the less

  • there' s no clue of Steve 's great sound... Chester ' s good but Steve is GREAT !

    Love the old Fives !

  • GRANDIOSE....

  • The best are the times with Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett.

  • It's unbelievable HOW HARD people mis-understand what I say ,then in their comment just repeat me ,but in their own words...

Aiaiaia, learn to read ,listen ,argue ...only then : talk...

You might defenitely give a RIGHT impression of trust and strength to who- ever reads your words later on...

As Gen-fans we seem to profoundly admire and like what they did as a group ...and more or less enjoy their individual solo-activities in the musical field...

    Bonne journée ...monsieur...

  • i love the apocalypse

  • Tony Banks OWNZ!!!!!!! Love his keyboard wizardry.

  • zepp&g

  • Ladies and Gentlemen, I am proud to present to you one of the greatest keyboardists in the music industry, Mr. Anthony Banks

  • Phil has a remarkable singing voice and can sound alot like Peter extremely well.

But his overall stage presence is much more goofy.

Peter sure did leave them high and dry though I guess this genesis is better than no genesis at all.

  • It's usually caused by jealousy.

  • NICE JOB, THANKS FOR POSTING

  • Hacket was upset that his compositions weren't getting chosen for Genesis albums. He'd just come off releasing a successful solo album (Voyage of the Acolyte - good CD!), and figured he'd try going out on his own.

He said he never felt like an equal member of the band. The band has also said that while he was a good guitar player, that maybe they'd treated him a little differently than the others.

  • what ??????

  • IT does not work ? For the good connoisseur It doesn't matter how much money you make selling other people's ideas, but the respect you earn through the years because of your beliefs and the talent and perfection to make it flourish no matter what the record companies say, respect from the people who admire your work and even, from the people that hate or don't like your music, IT is the case of the master Steve Hackett and the great Blackmore, and in the end IT WORKS, time is the best judge...

  • Phil was an amazing drummer, and - IMO - did a bang up job singing the old Peter songs. I actually prefer the live version of Supper's Ready on Seconds Out to the studio.

    Great vid, btw.

  • I wouldn't say that Seconds Out was better than the studio versions but Genesis definitelly sounded 'more professioanl' than with Pete. I don't know why, b/c obviously Peter is a better singer, the BAND sounded, kind of, 'amatourish'.

LOVE all their stuff till 1976, Wind & Wuthering. Their later music - should've rather quit.

  • great stuff well put together.

  • Heh man !!!!, this is a rare vid, and your excerpt selections are those I've decades hearing and endless reviewing....

    Thank U !!!!

  • How do I get this concert on DVD? Never seen it before. They sound so tight. This is the Genesis I need to hear more of. Hey, I hate to say it but the last few tours have not sounded like this. Thank you

  • For the most part,I think they were the tightest on the 1976 tour with bill bruford, but they are all pretty perfectionistic men and don't perform unless it's almost perfect...

  • Oh man, how I agree with you on the 1976 tour. It was the band`s musical peak, even if it was without Gabriel.

  • so.. we all agree that PG left the band pale in comparision, I think that the PG albums were always better than the Genesis (post hackett) albums, It was a huge mistake to let hackett go, lisent to Wind & Wuthering and then lisent to Duke.

I preffer any PG album instead of Duke

  • It's a matter of taste really. PG has an amazing voice imo. Hackett is an amazing song writer and amazing even more with what he could do with the equipment he was exposed to. Wind and Wuthering to me was and still is pure magic.

  • One thing about Phil ....he's one of the greatest drummers ever. No doubt. Even Chester says so....and Chester is one of the best.

  • @s0undch4s3r One other thing about phil, in the air tonight sucks balls

  • I find that, to me, Genesis was best while Steve Hackett was still the guitarist. Anyone else ever notice that their sound changed more when Hackett quit than when Gabriel did?

But I like pretty much any Genesis music. The spirit of the music was always there. The recent Turn It On Again tour proved that the three piece lineup still has it.

And I find it interesting that Gabriel's solo career went huge and no one complained about it. Gabriel was my favorite Genesis singer, but still...

  • The biggest difference between the PG and PC era's are the attention paid to front men. PG took away too much from the overall music to the point where TLLDOB became a circus sideshow and his departure was the best for the whole group. After that the live music didn't suffer overall because of the focus on where the attention should have always been, and that were the talent of the musicians and the songs themselves.

  • You know. I always thought the same as you.

I think the group had a better overall feel

for the music aspect. I'm not

putting PG down, he is very talented but when

he left it was really GENESIS as an entity to be

reckoned with as a whole. It's all about GENESIS(all of the musicians)..not just one man.

  • I don't mean to be PG bashing either. If PG and Hackett would do a reunion with Collins, Banks and Rutherford, I'd be their with the rest of the purists.

  • ya gotta love Mikes Shergold guitars lol

  • I agree. Very nice guitar. I liked his Double Ricky too.

  • Those Shergolds were beyond "state of the art". Probably still are. Never heard of another company that makes modular guitars like that.

  • Tony Banks is a genius!

  • LED ZEPP & GENESIS ARE THE BEST

  • In The Cage/Slippermen and Los Endos are from 1980. That's the Lyceum concert.

Apocalypse in 9/8 is from '73 I think, during the Selling England Tour.

  • You know your Genesis sir.

  • apocalypse in 9 8 is from the Foxtrot album

    fabulous stuff :-)

    God bless

  • hey boys...there's "the colony of slippermen", too!!

  • 6:38 to end is the best part (:

  • It's total Nostalgia....I know how you feel.

I would have loved to have seen that concert from the early 70s.

  • ME T0

  • great... just sry for the missing part of in the cage... :(

  • nice clip, this looks like 1980

  • Looks the the Lyceum shows in May 1980. They sounded so damn good.

  • best ever and the row of hits is neverending...

  • I AGREE

  • Best Band ever...

  • A thinkin, feeling man's band!
